On March 14, implementing the direction of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Provincial People's Committee and the Department of Industry and Trade of Nghe An chaired the launch and organization of Vietnam Consumer Rights Day 2024 with the theme "Transparent information, safe consumption".

Attending the launching ceremony were Mr. Pham Van Hoa - Director of the Department of Industry and Trade, representatives of provincial departments, branches and businesses, and a large number of consumers in the province.

According to Decision No. 1035/QD-TTg dated July 10, 2015 of the Prime Minister, March 15 of each year is chosen as Vietnam Consumer Rights Day, to affirm the role, position and importance of consumer rights protection for the stable and sustainable development of society and the country; as an opportunity to propagate, educate and disseminate laws and policies on consumer rights protection.

At the same time, it creates a basis to mobilize, focus attention, response and participation of the whole society in protecting consumer rights; contributing to building a healthy consumer environment and creating momentum for national development.

Nghe An is a convenient trading point and a large market for production, business, as well as trade and consumption activities. In 2023, the total retail sales of goods reached 95,112.4 billion VND. Therefore, protecting the rights of consumers is extremely important, receiving attention and close direction from all levels and sectors.

In 2023 alone, relevant departments and branches have inspected thousands of production and business establishments. Of which, nearly 3,000 violations were handled with fines totaling over 10 billion VND.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, Mr. Pham Van Hoa - Director of the Department of Industry and Trade emphasized that protecting consumer rights is the common responsibility of the State and the whole society. In the trend of increasingly deep international economic integration, consumer goods and services in the domestic market are increasingly diverse and abundant, therefore, consumers have many opportunities to choose goods and services according to their purposes and needs.

Besides, it is inevitable that the problem of counterfeit goods, poor quality goods, unsafe food, and commercial fraud is becoming more and more sophisticated, and the forms of violations are becoming more and more complicated, not only causing harm to the psychology and health of consumers but also affecting the reputation of legitimate businesses and production and trading establishments.

To ensure consumer rights in the coming time, departments, branches, and localities need to proactively coordinate in managing and supervising compliance with the law by organizations and individuals in production and business, creating favorable conditions for organizations and individuals to proactively participate in protecting consumer rights, strictly handling violations affecting consumer rights; State management agencies and organizations should strengthen propaganda and dissemination of consumer knowledge and laws to the people.

Organizations and individuals producing and trading goods and services in the province need to promote the application and development of advanced technology to produce goods and provide safe and quality services; improve business culture, respect the rights and listen to the opinions of consumers.

For consumers, use your right to choose effectively; choose good, environmentally friendly products from reputable businesses; speak up and fight against harmful, disrespectful, and fraudulent acts of organizations and individuals buying and selling goods and providing services; and at the same time, actively participate in the Campaign "Vietnamese people prioritize using Vietnamese goods".
