In just a few weeks, the HC1-01 underpass at An Phu intersection will officially open to traffic, helping to reduce congestion and increase traffic connectivity in the eastern part of Ho Chi Minh City. At the construction site, workers are working tirelessly, determined to complete the project on schedule.
The An Phu Interchange Project is one of the key traffic projects, of great significance to Ho Chi Minh City's traffic infrastructure. Construction began at the end of 2022 and the entire An Phu Interchange Project is expected to be completed by the end of 2025. Of which, the underpass connecting the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway to Mai Chi Tho Street will be open to traffic on April 30.
To ensure the tunnel is opened to traffic as scheduled, in recent days, contractors have increased manpower and machinery; increased working hours and shifts. Workers are currently working on tunnel segments from K9-K15 as well as pipeline D800 and the pumping station.
Mr. Nguyen Dat, construction supervisor of the HC1-01 underpass (package XL05, An Phu intersection project) said that the units are speeding up the construction progress. Currently, workers are focusing on the construction of the K9 closed tunnel, which is an important item to complete the tunnel structure.
"The HC1-01 underpass has completed more than 90% of its work volume and is expected to be open to traffic before April 30. Construction units are taking advantage of the dry season in Ho Chi Minh City to speed up progress. Machinery and human resources are mobilized to the maximum, working continuously in 3 shifts per day, from 6am today to 3am the next morning," said Mr. Dat.
In the photo, both on the tunnel cover and under the tunnel, dozens of workers, each with a task, work quickly in an urgent atmosphere. In the harsh sunlight of late March, everyone is focused, determined to speed up the progress so that the project can be completed quickly.
Mr. Pham Truong Giang, Deputy Head of the Road Project Management Board 2 (Transportation Board) said that the HC1-01 underpass is 760m long and has 4 lanes. "After the underpass is opened to traffic, traffic from An Phu intersection to Thu Thiem tunnel and vice versa will circulate under the tunnel, returning the surface of Mai Chi Tho street to construct items such as 2 overpass branches to Dong Van Cong," said Mr. Giang.
The An Phu Interchange Project has a scale of 3 floors, including the intersection area of the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway (HLD) with Mai Chi Tho Street; the intersection area of Mai Chi Tho and Dong Van Cong Street; construction of other technical infrastructure items (islands, pedestrian bridges, water supply and drainage systems, trees, lighting, traffic signal systems...) in sync with the scale of the intersection.
In addition to the HC1-01 underpass, the HC2 underpass is 480m long, has 4 lanes, and passes through the Mai Chi Tho - Dong Van Cong intersection. This underpass is under construction at tunnel segments K14-K16; K2-K3; and is currently resurfacing the road surface on K7-K8, expected to be completed by the end of this year.
The An Phu Interchange Project has a total investment of 3,400 billion VND, is a key project in the eastern gateway area of the city, when completed, it will help strengthen the connection between the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway with Mai Chi Tho Street and the main routes of Ho Chi Minh City. To date, the total progress of the project has reached about 65%.
Upon completion, An Phu intersection will help relieve traffic congestion and meet the needs for smooth traffic on important transport routes in the eastern part of the city. At the same time, it will gradually complete the traffic network according to the approved transport development plan of Ho Chi Minh City until 2020 and the vision after 2020; contributing to the socio-economic development of Thu Duc City in particular and Ho Chi Minh City in general.
