These days in Nghe An province, the weather is extremely hot, with high temperatures ranging from 39 to 43 degrees Celsius and low humidity, making people feel uncomfortable due to the heat and stuffiness.

That is why every afternoon, the irrigation canals, rivers, and dams in the area become more bustling when many people come to cool off.

Under the scorching hot weather, at 5 p.m., Mr. Thai Duy Sam (born in 1983, residing in Yen Thanh town) took his daughter to the irrigation canal located on the Dao River, not far from home, to cool off.

"I just took my child here to practice swimming and took a cool bath to cool off. The weather has been so hot and uncomfortable these past few days," said Mr. Sam.

For adults and young people who know how to swim, they swim in the deeper Dao River; while children are accompanied by their parents, most of them are equipped with life jackets and practice swimming in shallower, flatter irrigation canals.

Trinh Ngo Bao Chau (born in 2011, 7th grade student, residing in Yen Thanh town) has known how to swim since he was in 2nd grade. Every afternoon, he and his friends go to the canal to cool off.

“The water is very cool, so we come here to cool off instead of going to the swimming pool. Even though I can swim well, I don’t go swimming in the big river to ensure safety,” Chau shared.

The Dao River flows from Bara Do Luong through Yen Thanh and Quynh Luu districts, contributing significantly to providing domestic water and irrigation in the area.

However, every year, many tragic drowning incidents occur on this river. That is why Yen Thanh District Youth Union has coordinated with local authorities to organize propaganda and put up warning signs to prevent drowning as summer approaches.

“We recommend that parents absolutely do not let their children swim in rivers, ponds, lakes, or irrigation canals without an adult accompanying them. Relatives also need to equip children with life jackets and some necessary skills to prevent drowning and injury accidents,” said Secretary of Yen Thanh District Youth Union Pham Thi Huyen Trang.

Meanwhile, the mountainous district of Tuong Duong is considered the "fire pan" of Nghe An. During the holidays of April 30 and May 1, people and tourists gather to find streams in the deep forest to cool off.

Streams and eco-tourism spots such as Vang Thot (Luu Kien commune), or Tung Huong village (Tam Quang commune)... all attract locals and tourists.

Ms. Kha Thi Hien, Chairwoman of Tam Quang Commune People's Committee, said that there are warning signs in all bathing areas. All businesses have life jackets and swimming floats; children must be accompanied by their parents or adults to ensure safety.

In addition to the big beaches such as Cua Lo, Dien Thanh, Quynh beach... attracting visitors during this holiday, along Lam river through Vinh city, Do Luong, Thanh Chuong, Nam Dan or lakes, dams, rivers and streams... people also flock to cool off every afternoon.

Local authorities have also put up warning signs about dangerous deep water areas and advised people to wear life jackets when swimming to ensure safety.
