On July 19, Ms. Cao Thi Lan Thanh, Principal of Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted, Nghe An province, confirmed that Vo Trong Khai, a 12A1 student of the school, had won a Gold Medal at this year's International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO).

“This is a great joy not only for the family, school, teachers, and friends, but also a source of pride for the education sector of the province. Although this result is admirable, it is not surprising to those who have accompanied and followed me throughout my learning journey.

Khai always studies with intelligence, passion, perseverance and a spirit of learning. He has never given up his desire to conquer the peaks, and that is what makes today's gold medal completely worthy," Ms. Thanh shared.

According to Ms. Thanh, Khai's achievements are the crystallization of affection, dedication and responsibility from the close care of his family, the dedicated guidance of his teachers, the companionship of his friends, and the right investment from the school, the education sector and the provincial leaders.

Ms. Thanh emphasized: “Khai’s achievements will be a strong source of inspiration, igniting the spirit of effort and pursuit of passion for the next generations of students. Congratulations to Vo Trong Khai and his family for such a sweet and proud achievement.”

Vo Trong Khai showed his outstanding ability right from the time he entered 10th grade, with a perfect score of 20/20 in the entrance exam for the specialized math class. He was also the first student of the school to be selected to compete in the national excellent student competition right from his first year of school.

During his three years at Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted, Khai continuously achieved impressive results in national competitions for excellent students: two second prizes in grades 10 and 11 and first prize in grade 12. All three years, he was selected to the second round to select the national team to compete in the International Math Olympiad.

This is the second consecutive year that Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted has had students win the Gold Medal at the International Math Olympiad.

The 66th International Mathematical Olympiad was held from July 10-20 in Sunshine Coast, Queensland (Australia), bringing together 639 contestants from 113 countries and territories.

The Vietnamese delegation had 6 students participating in this year's competition and all won medals: 2 Gold Medals, 3 Silver Medals and 1 Bronze Medal.

With a total score of 188, the Vietnamese team ranked 9th overall, after countries with strong mathematical traditions such as: China, the US, South Korea, Poland, Japan...
