This morning, December 29, the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) held an online conference to review the work in 2024 and deploy tasks for 2025. Summarizing 5 years of implementing the National Digital Transformation Program, the conference focused on assessing the development of Vietnam's digital economy, e-commerce, and online public services, and identifying goals and targets for the development of information technology, telecommunications, information security, and e-government by 2030.

According to the report of the Ministry of Information and Communications, Vietnam recorded remarkable progress in the E-Government Index (EGDI) and the Global Cybersecurity Index (GCI). Telecommunication infrastructure and digitalization are spreading strongly, with Vietnam's 4G coverage reaching 99.8% of the population, exceeding the average of high-income countries (99.4%).

In 2024, the total revenue of the IT&T industry is estimated to reach VND 4,243,984 billion, an increase of 13.2% compared to 2023, contributing to GDP of VND 989,016 billion, an increase of 11.2% compared to 2023. Of which, the revenue of the telecommunications sector is VND 147,000 billion. In particular, 2024 marks a turning point when the 5G network is commercially deployed, with 25.5% of the population covered.

Vietnam also ranks 7th globally in terms of IPv6 usage rate, affirming its position in developing digital infrastructure. The digital economy has made a strong breakthrough, the proportion of the digital economy in GDP reaching 18.3%, with a growth rate of 20% compared to 2023...

Information and propaganda work, especially policy communication, continues to affirm its important role in honestly reflecting the mainstream of Vietnamese society, creating consensus, spreading positive energy, creating social trust, contributing to creating spiritual strength for Vietnam to break through and successfully carry out the digital transformation revolution.

In 2025, the Ministry of Information and Communications has set out a number of key tasks such as: Completing the proposal to develop the revised Postal Law. Deploying economic and technical norms for activities of guiding, receiving, digitizing records, and returning results of handling administrative procedures at ministries, ministerial-level agencies, and localities by public postal enterprises. Completing the goals and targets in the National Digital Transformation Program by 2025, with a vision to 2030...

The conference also proposed solutions to accelerate the national digital transformation process, including merging the Ministry of Information and Communications with the Ministry of Science and Technology.

Speaking at the conference, Deputy Prime Minister Ho Duc Phoc highly appreciated and commended the efforts and achievements of the collective leadership, civil servants, public employees and workers of the information and communications sector in the past time, contributing significantly to the overall development achievements of the country.

At the same time, the information and communication sector is required to ensure the safety of consumer rights in the online environment, and overcome limitations and shortcomings in databases and infrastructure. In the press sector, the ministry needs to strictly manage and prevent bad and toxic information in cyberspace using technological measures.

In the coming time, the industry needs to promote the achieved results, at the same time innovate and promote digital transformation, digital economy, digital technology, contributing to the goal of building a rich, powerful, prosperous and happy Vietnam.
