According to Reuters news agency, on the morning of October 28 (Vietnam time), US President Joe Biden had an hour-long meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi to promote bilateral relations.

According to US National Security Council spokesman John Kirby, the meeting was attended by National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan and Secretary of State Antony Blinken. After the meeting, President Biden assessed this as a “good opportunity” and a “positive development”. The White House issued a statement saying President Biden told Foreign Minister Wang Yi that the two countries need to manage competition in the relationship responsibly and maintain open lines of communication.

The White House statement also made it clear that President Biden had invited Chinese President Xi Jinping to San Francisco next month to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit. China has not yet confirmed that President Xi Jinping will attend the summit in San Francisco next month. The two leaders last met at a summit in Bali, Indonesia in November 2022.

During his two-day visit to the United States, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with his US counterpart Anthony Blinken. According to Kirby, Foreign Minister Wang Yi also had a “constructive conversation” with White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan.
