Technology Needed to Prevent Copyright Infringement
The conference has 34 topics and 50 presentations from international and Vietnamese experts: World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), World Trade Organization (WTO), Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Korea, Korean Copyright Protection Agency (KCOPA), International Coalition Against Audiovisual Piracy, Motion Picture Association of America, International Online Intermediary Service Alliance, International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers (CISAC).
The conference will focus on the following contents: Introduction to the copyright enforcement system of countries; the value of copyright and the contribution of creative industries to the economy; common methods of online copyright infringement and threats related to the use of pirated content; international developments in online enforcement and management; jurisdiction and applicable law in online copyright disputes; methods of resolving online copyright infringement; evidence collection, preservation, balanced approach to copyright enforcement and use of technology to prevent copyright infringement; anti-piracy activities carried out by KCOPA (Korea Copyright Infringement Monitoring System)...
Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ho An Phong delivered the opening speech at the conference.
Speaking at the opening of the Conference, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ho An Phong said that creativity in the digital environment has opened up many opportunities, brought new creative tools, and at the same time created a storage environment, distribution methods and new forms of exploitation and use for works, performances, recordings, videos and broadcast programs. Digital content creation has been gradually affirming its role and position and is considered a new land full of potential for businesses, content producers, organizations, individuals and brands around the world. However, this "playground" also poses a "problem" of copyright protection for each digital content product, not only in the Vietnamese market but also globally.
"The challenge of protecting the rights of subjects and the activities of copyright management and enforcement agencies, especially in the context of copyright infringement in the digital environment involving many subjects from different countries, makes it difficult to identify and handle violations within national jurisdiction. It requires each country and international organization as well as copyright owners to cooperate, coordinate closely and share promptly," Deputy Minister Ho An Phong emphasized.
According to Deputy Minister Ho An Phong, Vietnam is currently conducting research on joining the Beijing Treaty for the Protection of Audiovisual Performances and actively participating in discussions of the WIPO Standing Committee on Copyright (SCCR) to contribute to the Draft International Legal Instruments on Copyright within the framework of the WIPO Agendas. These are also specific actions, contributing to the implementation of Vietnam's policy of proactively and actively participating in digital transformation as well as international integration. However, to effectively take advantage of the opportunities from joining international copyright treaties, including the WCT and WPPT, as well as to meet domestic needs, Vietnam must gradually improve the capacity of copyright management and enforcement agencies, especially in the digital environment.
"Doing a good job of copyright protection is one of the factors to build a healthy and competitive cultural industry; contributing more and more to GDP, creating more jobs and increasing export turnover of each country," Mr. Ho An Phong affirmed.

Along with that, within the framework of the International Conference on Copyright Enforcement, a number of sideline activities were organized to exchange and promote Vietnamese culture, and at the same time, it was an opportunity for international guests to have time to exchange and strengthen connections between countries.
Deputy Minister Ho An Phong added that this conference will be a good opportunity for us to update the status of copyright protection and enforcement, especially in the digital environment in each country and region; share trends in policy development and technological solutions to deal with copyright and related rights infringements in the digital environment; and exchange, share experiences and implement cooperation programs in copyright management and enforcement in the digital environment in the future.
The "International Conference on Copyright Enforcement in the Digital Environment" took place from June 17 to June 21 in Hanoi.
The conference was attended by leaders of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea to Vietnam, and 70 experts from international and Vietnamese countries. International delegates came from 15 countries around the world (Southeast Asia, Africa, Arab region, Latin America); on the Vietnamese side, there were representatives of management and enforcement agencies of copyright and related rights: People's Court, People's Procuracy, representatives of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Ministry of Information and Communications, Ministry of Industry and Trade, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Justice, etc. |
