The Information Security Department said that of the 17,679 reports of fraud cases sent to the unit by users from October 14 to November 10, 856 cases were reported via the website canhbao.khonggianmang.vn and 16,823 cases were reported via the hotline 156/5656.
By the end of September, the National Cyber Security Monitoring Center - NCSC under the Information Security Department recorded 125,338 websites impersonating agencies and organizations. Of which, the largest proportion were websites impersonating websites of banks, financial institutions, e-commerce platforms, and government agencies.
According to the report on information security situation in Vietnam in the third quarter of 2024, just announced by Viettel Cyber Security, during this period, the number of fake domain names increased nearly 2 times compared to the same period last year.
Experts say the sharp increase in the number of fake domain names poses urgent issues of brand protection for companies, organizations and businesses in Vietnam.
In particular, finance and banking are still the top targets of attack groups, accounting for 58% of total attacks, focusing mainly on fraud related to credit card services, online loans, etc.
With rates of 17% and 13% respectively, retail - e-commerce and public services are also two areas that suffered many fraudulent and counterfeit attacks in the third quarter.
The main purpose of hackers when attacking the retail and e-commerce sectors is mainly to take advantage of the brands of large organizations to commit fraud in the form of commission sharing.
Fraudulent and forgery attacks on the public service sector have been causing great damage to victims, with the amount of money stolen in each fraud case reaching hundreds of billions of dong.
In addition, the Viettel Threat Intelligence system also recorded phishing and fake attacks related to other important industries and fields in Vietnam such as telecommunications, securities, energy, etc.
It can be seen that online fraud is still a serious problem in cyberspace in Vietnam and the world. Security experts also agree that the 'war' to push back this problem is facing many challenges.
According to experts, in addition to a series of solutions being vigorously implemented by the Ministry of Information and Communications and other ministries and branches, in the coming time, the implementation of regulations on authentication, filtering, and protection of social network users... in Decree 147 dated November 9, 2024 of the Government, will contribute to reducing negative behaviors, including tricks of taking advantage of cyberspace to defraud and appropriate people's assets.
For users, NCSC experts note: Using sophisticated tricks, online scammers apply many psychological measures to build trust and lead victims to follow their script.
Therefore, every citizen needs to grasp the knowledge and skills to prevent online fraud to protect themselves in cyberspace.
