Vinh airport expansion

On March 2, the People's Committee of Nghe An province announced that it had just approved the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) as the investor to implement the above project.

The project is being implemented in Nghi Lien commune, Vinh city, on national defense land, and will be constructed in 12 months. 100% of the funding will be provided by the investor, focusing on renovating and expanding the aircraft parking lot, building a terminal and a secondary radar station.

Mr. Hoang Phu Hien, Director of Nghe An Department of Transport, said that currently Vinh airport has no parking lot during peak hours, so planes have to circle to wait for a spot. The upgrade will help solve the overload during peak hours, reduce costs for airlines, help people travel conveniently, and avoid having to fly at night.

Put into use in late 2003, Vinh airport has only one runway 2,400 m long, 45 m wide, designed capacity 2.75 million passengers per year. Currently, the airport handles 21-26 flights per day by Vietnam Airlines , VietJet Air, Bamboo Airways and Pacific Airlines. In July 2023, the airport had to close for nearly 16 hours due to about 40 m2 of runway having cracked asphalt concrete.

According to the planning of the airport system for the period 2021-2030, Vinh international airport has a scale and level of 4E airport (able to receive Airbus 350, Boeing 787 and equivalent) with a total area of ​​over 557 hectares, designed capacity of 8 million passengers per year.
