What information does the QR code on the Citizen Identification card contain?
The QR code on the Citizen Identification card stores information about the Citizen Identification number and Identity Card number.
Agencies, organizations and individuals can check information about citizens' Citizen Identification Numbers and National Identity Card Numbers by scanning QR codes, without requiring citizens to provide a Certificate of Citizen Identification Number and National Identity Card Number.
In case the QR code on the Citizen Identification card does not contain information about the Identity Card number or the old Citizen Identification card number, the Public Security agency that receives the request for a Citizen Identification card is responsible for issuing a Certificate of Identity Card number or the old Citizen Identification card number to the citizen upon request.

What information is shown on the Citizen Identification Card?
Specifically, Clause 2, Article 3 of Circular 06/2021/TT-BCA stipulates the contents shown on the Public Identification Card as follows:
- The front of the Citizen Identification card includes the following information:
+ Left, from top to bottom: National emblem of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, diameter 12 mm; photo of the person issued with the Citizen Identification Card, size 20 x 30 mm; Valid until/Date of expiry;
+ Right, from top to bottom: SOCIALIST REPUBLIC OF VIETNAM; Independence - Freedom - Happiness; SOCIALIST REPUBLIC OF VIETNAM; Independence - Freedom - Happiness; the words CITIZEN IDENTITY CARD; chip symbol; QR code; Number; Full name; Date of birth; Gender; Nationality; Place of origin; Place of residence;
- The back of the Citizen Identification card includes the following information:
+ Left, from top to bottom: Personal identification; Date, month, year; DIRECTOR GENERAL OF THE POLICE DEPARTMENT FOR ADMINISTRATIVE MANAGEMENT OF SOCIAL ORDER; signature, full name of the person authorized to issue the card; seal with the national emblem of the agency issuing the Citizen Identification Card; electronic chip.
+ On the right, from top to bottom: There are 2 boxes: Left index finger and Right index finger of the person issued the citizen identification card.
+ MRZ series.
Value of Citizen Identification Card
The validity of the Citizen Identification Card is specified as follows:
(1) Citizen Identification Card is an identification document of Vietnamese citizens that is valid to prove the citizen identity of the cardholder to conduct transactions within the territory of Vietnam.
(2) Citizen Identification Cards are used instead of passports in cases where Vietnam and foreign countries sign treaties or international agreements allowing citizens of the signatory countries to use Citizen Identification Cards instead of passports in each other's territories.
(3) Competent agencies, organizations and individuals are authorized to request citizens to present their Citizen Identification Cards to verify their identity and information specified in Article 18 of the 2014 Law on Citizen Identification; and are authorized to use the personal identification number on the Citizen Identification Card to verify the information of the cardholder in the National Population Database and specialized databases in accordance with the provisions of law.
When a citizen presents a Citizen Identification Card at the request of a competent agency, organization or individual, that competent agency, organization or individual shall not require the citizen to present additional documents certifying the information specified in (1) and (3).
(4) The State protects the legitimate rights and interests of people granted Citizen Identification Cards according to the provisions of law.
