With only over 500 square meters of production land, but with the scientific method of raising eels without mud, after 4 years of raising eels in cement tanks with nylon ropes, the family of Mr. Thai Hoang Phong, a farmer in Hamlet 2, My Tan Commune, Cai Be District (Tien Giang Province) earned hundreds of millions of dong in profit from selling eel seeds and commercial eels.
At the end of 2017, through information on the Internet, Mr. Phong saw the effectiveness of raising mud-free eels in cement tanks using nylon ropes.
With his diligence, hard work, dynamism in economic development and especially his love for animal husbandry, Mr. Phong researched and learned eel farming experience and mud-free eel farming techniques to apply to his family's production model.
In early 2018, he started building a mud-free eel farming model at home. Taking advantage of an empty pig pen, Phong divided the cells and invested in a water pipe system to change the water daily.
After completing and disinfecting, he bought 10,000 eel fry from Vinh Long province for 17 million VND to raise.
Thanks to the scientific and technical care of mud-free eels, the eels grow well and produce high yields.
In 2019, Mr. Thai Hoang Phong sold more than 5,000 commercial eels, earning a profit of more than 180 million VND; he kept the remaining nearly 5,000 eels for breeding to become parent eels.

Six months later, the parent eels began to reproduce, opening up a new opportunity for Mr. Phong to earn additional income from selling eel fry.
From 2020 to 2022, Mr. Phong sold more than 250,000 eel fry to farmers in Ben Tre, Vinh Long provinces and neighboring communes in Cai Be district.
Mr. Thai Hoang Phong sells eel fry for 3,500 - 5,000 VND/eel, depending on the size of the eel.
Currently, Mr. Phong raises more than 30,000 commercial eels. Last April, he sold 5 tons of commercial eels at 120,000 VND/kg, earning more than 500 million VND.
Regarding mud-free eel farming techniques, according to Mr. Phong, for eels to grow and develop well, the tank must first ensure ventilation.
Eels are quite sensitive to the water environment in the tank, so the water must be changed daily after feeding the eels.
To increase the survival rate of eels and improve the efficiency of eel farming, farmers must regularly supplement vitamin C, minerals, digestive enzymes... through mixing with eel food.
Eels are dark-loving animals that like to hide and often live in mud...so when raising them in cement tanks, you must create shelter for them by making substrates out of bunches of black nylon rope.
In addition, eel farmers must focus on preventing and treating common eel diseases and disinfecting the tanks.
After about 12 months of raising, the commercial eels are old enough, the meat is firm, delicious, rich in nutrients, each eel weighs from 300 - 400 grams and can be sold.
