Long An: Destroying pigs positive for African swine fever

Tan Hung district authorities have just destroyed all pigs in the area whose samples tested positive for African swine fever.

The above information was announced by the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Tan Hung district, Long An province, on October 24.

Previously, Tan Hung district authorities received a report from Mr. Tran Phuoc Thanh's family (Hung Trung hamlet, Hung Thanh commune, Tan Hung district) that 10 pigs were sick and died.

Authorities take samples of dead pigs

The Rapid Response Team for Disease Prevention and Control of Livestock and Poultry in Tan Hung District came to verify, inspect and collect samples for testing. At the same time, they asked Mr. Thanh's household to dispose of the dead pigs and spray disinfectant in the livestock barn area.

Test results of specimens from the Veterinary Department of Region 6 African swine fever virus was detected in the test sample.

The authorities coordinated with the Hung Thanh commune government to destroy all remaining pigs (total weight of 4,620 kg); at the same time, disinfect and sterilize the infected household and surrounding areas.
