A word of caution when using AI to create art

Although the MV "Kie sau van la nguoi Viet Nam" has been hidden from online platforms by the production unit, the audience still reacted and criticized harshly.

This incident is a testament and a warning about the gap in content control when applying AI to artistic creation.

Kiep sau la nguoi Viet Nam is the first song in the community art project Viet Nam Love released by T Production on the evening of August 7. The song features Quoc Thien, Quan AP, Lam Bao Ngoc, Duong Hoang Yen and artist Thu Huyen contributing their voices with the desire to express national pride.

Although the music was well-received, the images using AI technology in the MV caused a series of major controversies: the national flag was not up to standard, the Dong Son drum motif was distorted, the location of the archipelagos on the map was incorrect, the hero Tran Quoc Toan crushed an orange in the plains (historical information) but the AI-created scene was in the mountains, the roof of the De Castries bunker in Dien Bien was not like reality...

In response to criticism from the audience, the MV production team quickly hid the MV and said this was an important lesson to make future products more polished.

Controversial AI-generated images in MV

Audience member Nguyen Huy Hoang (residing in Cat Lai ward, Ho Chi Minh City) was indignant: “The De Castries bunker is still in Dien Bien , the images are complete and clear in all newspapers, magazines, Google... Yet they asked AI to draw soldiers wearing strange uniforms planting the red flag with a yellow star on a strange steel bunker roof. If you love your country, you have to do it carefully! Really sloppy!”

Audience member Vo Thi Anh Ngoc (living in Cu Chi, Ho Chi Minh City) said she really likes listening to Quoc Thien, Quan AP, Lam Bao Ngoc, and Duong Hoang Yen sing, but she cannot support such a sloppy product from the production unit.

“The errors related to maps, cultural symbols, historical contexts, and cultural aesthetics are at a serious level. I see many people blaming AI, but I think the responsibility of the production unit should be considered. Before showing it to the audience, couldn’t they have checked and censored it properly? If they see something wrong, they should have adjusted it early before releasing the MV. If you don’t have enough time and ability to find out right from wrong, then don’t do it,” Anh Ngoc shared.

It can be said that AI is currently the focus of discussion among audiences and the creative art community. Many fields such as cinema, music, painting, design, etc. are experimenting with AI to carry out projects and receiving a series of mixed reactions regarding data aspects, cultural and historical factors, and the ability to convey emotions. Each incident from the released works shows the potential as well as the limits and consequences when humans let AI "create" art without censorship and careful review.

AI is the present, the potential of the future, but we must also identify that AI has potential risks of errors, especially when used to "create" products related to history and culture that require high precision. This incident is also a lesson, a warning that we cannot be arbitrary with AI in artistic creation.
