For Vietnam - an open, dynamic and deeply integrated economy , logistics is no longer simply a transportation and warehousing activity, but has become the "trump card" that determines the competitiveness of businesses and goods in the global market.

The country is entering a new era of development, with strategic breakthroughs in institutions, infrastructure, human resources and the promotion of exploiting new spaces. The logistics industry is both facing higher demands and being given the conditions to make a breakthrough.

Mr. Hoang Quang Phong, Vice President of the Vietnam Federation of Commerce and Industry, emphasized that in the context of integration, logistics is becoming one of the fastest growing service industries in Vietnam.

According to experts, in order for Vietnam's logistics industry to truly become a "trump card" and overcome many existing bottlenecks, the development of this industry needs to follow new trends, with synchronous solutions from policies to specific actions.

Mr. Hoang Quang Phong, Vice President of the Vietnam Federation of Commerce and Industry, commented that in the context of integration, logistics is becoming one of the fastest growing service industries in Vietnam, making practical contributions to the country's development and international economic integration. According to the North Central and Central Coastal Region Planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, this region is positioned as a fast-growing, dynamic, strong maritime economy region and becoming the locomotive of the whole country.

To achieve that goal, one of the key breakthroughs is to strongly develop industry, financial services, trade and especially logistics. The North Central and Central Coast regions have a strategic advantage, located at the "crossroads" of the North-South and East-West transport corridors. This region owns deep-water seaports, a network of airports and a synchronous railway system, creating great potential to become a national and regional logistics center, effectively connecting seaports, economic zones, airports, international border gates, major trading hubs, coastal cities, economic centers, growth poles of the whole country and the Greater Mekong Sub-region.

However, despite its great potential, the logistics industry in Vietnam in general and the Central region in particular is still facing many challenges. Logistics costs are still high, accounting for a large proportion of product prices, reducing the competitiveness of Vietnamese goods. Although there have been many improvements in infrastructure, the lack of synchronization between modes of transport (road, rail, waterway, air) is still a major bottleneck. Moreover, digitalization and technology application in the industry are still slow, making logistics processes not really effective and transparent.

In order for the Vietnamese logistics industry to truly make breakthroughs and meet expectations, VCCI has proposed regional initiatives to the Government, ministries and international organizations to bring the logistics of the Central region and the whole country into global connectivity. This is a strategic step, affirming the role of business representative organizations in proactively proposing solutions, creating motivation from practice to promote the development of the industry. In addition, it is promoting digital transformation and green transformation. The new development era requires promoting digital transformation in the logistics industry. The application of digital technology and smart management platforms will help reduce time, costs, and enhance competitiveness for businesses.

However, digital transformation is not only about installing software but also about changing mindsets and working processes, towards transparency and seamlessness throughout the entire supply chain. The trend of green transformation is also an inevitable requirement. Logistics development needs to be associated with environmental standards, developing circular economy and sharing economy. This not only helps protect the environment but also enhances the reputation and competitiveness of Vietnamese enterprises in the international market, especially in demanding markets such as the EU and the US.

For Vietnam, logistics is no longer simply transportation and warehousing activities, but has become the "trump card" that determines the competitiveness of businesses and goods in the global market.

Finally, to develop the logistics industry, it is necessary to complete and develop synchronous and regionally connected infrastructure. The planning of the North Central and Central Coastal regions needs to focus on developing economic corridors along the North-South and East-West axes. This requires the synchronous development of seaport systems, airports, railways and roads, in order to effectively connect seaports, economic zones, major trading hubs and growth poles. This synchronous development will help the entire region maximize its strategic position, effectively connect with national and international economic corridors, and become an important logistics center of the country.

Mr. Hoang Van Phuc, Deputy General Director of BIDV - SuMi TRUST Leasing Company Limited (BSL) shared that global financial support for the logistics industry reached 106 billion USD in 2024 and is forecast to increase to 171 billion USD in 2033. This is an important solution to innovate vehicles, technology and meet ESG standards on environment - society and corporate governance in the supply chain. Renting fleets for operation, renting containers, investing in port equipment in the form of financial leasing... is relatively common in the global logistics industry.

In Vietnam, financial leasing has gradually become popular in recent years, with an average growth rate of over 16%/year. However, the market size remains modest, with a market capacity of only about 47,000 billion VND, by the end of 2024, accounting for less than 0.4% of GDP.

This shows that the potential of financial leasing, a special financial sector, is still very large. If well utilized, this will be a significant contribution to economic development in general, as well as to the logistics sector in particular, an important spearhead of the Vietnamese economy.

With product characteristics such as flexibility in solutions, specialization in equipment financing, quick procedures, no need for collateral..., financial leasing is a very suitable capital solution for the logistics sector, especially for small and medium enterprises - which often encounter difficulties in accessing capital for development.

BIDV – SuMi TRUST Leasing Company Limited is built on the cooperation foundation between the Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV) and Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Financial Group of Japan. This company is committed to providing flexible, transparent and suitable financial leasing solutions for the development of Vietnam's logistics industry.

Thereby, supporting businesses to access financial solutions in a timely manner, invest in modern vehicles and equipment effectively, contributing to promoting a sustainable, dynamic logistics industry and deep integration into the global supply chain.

Not only financial enterprises, but also the representative of VCCI, Mr. Hoang Quang Phong, Vice President of the Vietnam Federation of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), also pledged to continue accompanying businesses, promoting the improvement of the business environment and reducing logistics costs through policy comments and public-private dialogue.

This is especially important in creating a clear legal corridor, eliminating unnecessary administrative barriers. The management method needs to be based more on market principles and tools instead of administrative decisions, creating freedom, transparency and healthy competition for businesses.

Vietnam's logistics industry is facing great opportunities to break through and reach the regional level. With the determination of provincial and municipal governments, the support of VCCI and the business community, and the policy guidance from the Central Government, especially the connection through specialized forums, the North Central and Central Coast regions can completely become an important logistics center of the country, contributing to solving the problem of logistics costs, improving the competitiveness of Vietnamese enterprises and goods, making the Vietnamese economy develop faster, more sustainably and integrate more deeply into the global trade flow.
