Previously, the Minister of Public Security issued a decision approving the plan to auction 339,780 car license plates.

Of these, Hanoi has 60,230 license plates, and Ho Chi Minh City has 34,520 license plates. Currently, the auction organizer has posted a list of all car license plates that will be auctioned in this fourth session.

The starting price of a car license plate for auction is 40 million VND; The deposit is equal to this starting price and the step price is 5 million VND.

In addition, auction participants have many options according to their beliefs, with license plates that have feng shui meanings, or match the date of birth, or the phone number ending to choose to bid at the appropriate price.

With the increasing demand for car purchases at the end of the year and the list of car license plates put up for auction this fourth time, the authorities will meet most of the demand for lucky identification plates and suitable feng shui license plates for people to choose according to their preferences.

According to Decree 39/2023/ND-CP of the Government, the person who wins the car license plate auction has 12 months (from the date of receiving the car license plate confirmation to register the auction winning license plate), people do not need to have a car before registering to participate in the auction.

The Traffic Police Department said that all qualified Vietnamese organizations and individuals are entitled to participate in the auction of car license plates according to regulations.

Within 15 days from the date of announcement of auction results, the auction winner must pay the entire auction winning amount after deducting the deposit into the Ministry of Public Security's specialized collection account. The auction winning amount does not include vehicle registration fees.

Through 3 auctions taking place over the previous 6 months, the units successfully organized online auctions for 23,940 license plates. As of May 23, the total amount of money collected from auctions of car license plates to pay to the State budget was more than 2,175 billion VND.
