According to the old men and women in this area, Mr. Truong Hung was the first person to bring two varieties of longan from China to plant on the sand dunes of Bac Lieu. Both varieties of longan are adapted to the soil, so they grow luxuriantly, produce large fruits, thin skin, crispy flesh, juicy and sweet. From there, the name Giong Nhan was born.

I have the opportunity to work in Bac Lieu. I have also eaten longan grown in many other places, but the flavor of Bac Lieu longan is what I really remember.

In this area now, there are not only rare Su-bic and Tu-huyt longans that are hundreds of years old, but also golden rice longans with thicker, sweeter, more fragrant and crispy flesh than other longan varieties, considered the most delicious specialty of Bac Lieu.

Notably, recently, the Thanh Nhan variety appeared, successfully bred by Mrs. Tran Kieu (71 years old, also known as Mrs. Thanh), the owner of a large ancient longan garden in Giong Nhan A hamlet, Hiep Thanh commune, Bac Lieu city. The new famous delicious longan variety was named and grafted after Mrs. Thanh, so it is called Thanh Nhan. Currently, Thanh Nhan is favored by consumers, especially tourists.

Thanks to the successful grafting of Bac Lieu longan variety on native longan trees, the productivity, appearance and quality of longan have all improved, contributing to increased income after each harvest.
