The leader of the Ta'ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) rebel group, who did not want to be identified, told Reuters on January 12 that in talks with the Myanmar military and with the participation of a Chinese special envoy, the alliance of three rebel groups, known as the Three Brothers Alliance, had agreed to "cease fire and stop advancing."

"From the (coalition) side, the agreement is to refrain from attacks on enemy camps or towns. From the army side, the agreement is not to engage in attacks through air strikes, shelling or heavy weapons," the TNLA leader added.

China's Foreign Ministry also said today that it facilitated peace talks between the Myanmar military and Myanmar rebel groups in Kunming city (China) from January 10-11, and both sides agreed to stop fighting and resolve disputes through negotiations, according to Reuters.

There is currently no information about the confirmation of the Myanmar military government regarding the above announcement by TNLA and China.

The other two rebel groups in the Three Brothers Alliance, the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) and the Arakan Army (AA), did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the talks.

Fighting has erupted across Myanmar's Shan state since the three rebel groups launched a joint offensive against the military in late October 2023.

In total, the three-group alliance claims it has seized at least 422 bases and seven towns from the Myanmar military since October 27, according to AFP.

Meanwhile, at least 378 civilians have been killed and more than 660,000 people have been displaced in Myanmar since late October, according to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).
