Le Quang Liem excellently defeated the former chess king of India: Champion of Leon Masters 2025

The Leon Masters 2025 chess tournament took place from July 4 to 6 in Spain, attracting 4 players including former chess king Viswanathan Anand, Santos Latasa (Spain), Faustino Oro (Argentina) and Le Quang Liem. There were no surprises as 2013 World Blitz Chess Champion Le Quang Liem and former World Champion Viswanathan Anand overcame their opponents to reach the final of the Leon Masters.

In the final that took place last night (July 6), Le Quang Liem held Viswanathan Anand to a draw in the first game, then excellently defeated his senior in games 2 and 3 before sharing points in the final game, thereby winning 3-1 overall, becoming the champion. Recently, Le Quang Liem has been busy with work in the US as head coach of the Webster University chess team and director of the SPICE Chess Academy, so he rarely participates in international tournaments. On the latest rankings of the World Chess Federation (FIDE), the Ho Chi Minh City player is ranked 22nd with an elo of 2,729.
