The Ho Chi Minh City delegation led by Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Vo Van Hoan visited, exchanged and met with the Vietnamese community in Korea.

On the morning of May 12, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Vo Van Hoan and his delegation had a courtesy visit and worked with Ambassador Vu Ho, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to Korea with the goal of "Improving efficiency and deepening the foreign relations of Ho Chi Minh City with key localities of Korea in the context of profound changes in the regional and international situation, helping to expand development space, find new driving forces for the City's economic growth and enhance the City's international position".

This working trip to Korea aims to express the affection and deep concern of the City's leaders for the Vietnamese community in Korea, thereby learning about the lives, listening to the thoughts and aspirations of overseas Vietnamese living and working in Korea and being a great source of encouragement for the Vietnamese community in Korea.

Mr. Vu Ho, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to Korea, spoke at the meeting.

Also on the morning of May 12, Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Vo Van Hoan and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to Korea Vu Ho chaired the program "Meeting and exchanging with the Vietnamese community in Korea".

At the meeting, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Vo Van Hoan said that he will assign the Ho Chi Minh City Committee for Overseas Vietnamese to coordinate with localities in Korea to continue organizing meaningful exchange and cooperation programs, not only for the development of the City but also for the needs of the intellectual community, businesses, and students abroad.

On this occasion, Ho Chi Minh City leaders presented a Vietnamese bookcase to the General Association of Vietnamese in Korea in response to the Project "Honoring Vietnamese Language Day in the Overseas Vietnamese Community in the period 2023 - 2030" of the Vietnamese Government.

Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Vo Van Hoan presented a Vietnamese bookshelf to the Vietnamese community in Korea.

Through this trip, the leaders of Ho Chi Minh City hope to honor the richness of the Vietnamese language, raise awareness of the national language and culture for overseas Vietnamese in Korea and international friends, especially the young generation; strongly spread the love of Vietnamese, become a driving force to promote the movement of teaching and learning Vietnamese in the community; and thereby contribute to preserving and promoting the cultural identity and national traditions; lay the foundation for a new stage of developing the position of Vietnamese in many fields.

According to a report by the Immigration Service under the Ministry of Justice of Korea (MOJ), the number of foreigners residing in Korea reached 2,507,584 people; of which the Vietnamese community is about 271,000 people, accounting for the second highest proportion among foreign communities in Korea.
