On the evening of January 18, the Committee for Overseas Vietnamese in Ho Chi Minh City coordinated with the Department of Culture and Sports to organize a meeting for overseas Vietnamese to celebrate the Lunar New Year 2025.
Overseas Vietnamese "order" Ho Chi Minh City
Overseas Vietnamese believe that in recent times, Ho Chi Minh City has made efforts to simplify investment procedures and actively disseminate information, but there still needs to be more innovative policies in promoting resources from overseas Vietnamese. In particular, there should be specific "topics" and the establishment of expert groups to support in solving each specific problem.
Speaking at the meeting, Ms. Tran Tue Tri, a Singaporean expatriate, said that the Policy Project to effectively promote remittance resources in Ho Chi Minh City from now until 2030 , not only helps to take advantage of the large remittances sent by the overseas Vietnamese community, but also creates favorable mechanisms and policies so that overseas Vietnamese can participate in contributing to the city's development.
However, besides the large enterprises and investors that have access, overseas Vietnamese sometimes do not understand clearly. Therefore, more information and communication work is needed to help turn policies into deep awareness and easy implementation.
Mr. Johnathan Hanh Nguyen, an overseas Vietnamese in the US, suggested that in order to continue attracting overseas Vietnamese investment resources, the city needs to continue to make investment procedures transparent, establish a "one-stop" process specifically for high-tech investment projects of overseas Vietnamese investors, and increase the attractiveness of tourism and business by developing MICE tourism and underground infrastructure.
Besides, building a platform to connect overseas Vietnamese, supporting overseas Vietnamese to quickly grasp investment opportunities.
Striving for double-digit economic growth by 2025
Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee and Chairwoman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council Nguyen Thi Le affirmed that the overseas Vietnamese business community has proposed solutions to increase mobilization and connection of the overseas Vietnamese community to consume the city's branded products; promote export channels and protect the city's branded goods in markets around the world.
Many overseas Vietnamese businessmen have returned to start businesses, establish companies, build factories to develop production, business and create jobs for the locality, such as Mr. Jonhnathan Hanh Nguyen, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Luan, Mr. Vo Ta Han...
Informing overseas Vietnamese, Ho Chi Minh City leaders added that 2025 is the final year of implementing the 5-year socio-economic development plan 2021 - 2025, which is of special importance, a year of acceleration, breakthrough, creating the foundation and premise for implementing the socio-economic development plan for the period 2026 - 2030.
Ho Chi Minh City will focus on leadership and direction to give the highest priority to strongly promoting growth associated with macroeconomic stability, controlling inflation, ensuring large balances and high surpluses; striving for double-digit economic growth in 2025.
"And to realize those goals, we cannot do without the important contributions of nearly 3 million overseas Vietnamese with connections to the city who are living and working in over 130 countries and territories," Ms. Nguyen Thi Le affirmed.
In the past three years, Ho Chi Minh City has been the locality that has attracted the most remittances, accounting for more than half of the whole country. In 2024, the amount of remittances sent to Vietnam is estimated to reach about 16 billion USD, of which Ho Chi Minh City will reach 9.547 billion USD.
