The Ministry of Transport has just issued a document responding to voters' petitions on expanding National Highway 1A through Quy Nhon City, Binh Dinh.

Specifically, voters in Binh Dinh province proposed that the Ministry of Transport direct the management unit of National Highway 1A (section through Bui Thi Xuan ward, Quy Nhon city) to inspect, survey and have a plan to expand this route into a dual carriageway with a median strip to ensure traffic safety for people participating in traffic.

Currently, this road is too narrow, traffic volume is increasing, traffic accidents occur continuously.

Responding to this content, the Ministry of Transport said that, implementing the Prime Minister's direction and approved planning, in the period from 2013 to 2015, the Ministry of Transport has invested and completed the expansion of National Highway 1 from Thanh Hoa to Can Tho with a scale of 4 lanes with a median strip.

As for sections that already have a scale of 4 lanes or have bypasses, investment will be considered in the next phase. Therefore, National Highway 1 through Bui Thi Xuan Ward (Quy Nhon City) belonging to the route from Phu Tai intersection to Binh Phu bridge will be kept intact, only the road surface will be strengthened because it runs parallel to National Highway 1D which has been invested with a scale of 2 - 4 lanes.

“According to the road network planning for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050, National Highway 1 will have a level 3, 4-lane scale. The Ministry of Transport is focusing resources to invest in completing and putting into operation the North-South expressway in the East section through Binh Dinh province with a scale of 4 lanes by the end of 2025. When the project is completed and put into operation, it will reduce the load on vehicles traveling on National Highway 1,” the Ministry of Transport informed.

A representative of the Ministry of Transport also said that after the North-South Eastern Expressway is put into operation, the Ministry will coordinate with the People's Committee of Binh Dinh province to re-evaluate the demand and consider expanding National Highway 1 through Bui Thi Xuan ward if necessary.
