On December 24, the Ministry of Transport simultaneously held the inauguration ceremony of four important transport projects: Dien Bien Airport; Tuyen Quang - Phu Tho Expressway; My Thuan 2 Bridge and My Thuan - Can Tho Expressway, at four bridge points: Dien Bien, Tuyen Quang, Vinh Long and Tien Giang.

At Dien Bien province, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended the inauguration ceremony of Dien Bien Airport Project.

At the Tuyen Quang province bridge, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Do Van Chien attended the inauguration ceremony of the Tuyen Quang - Phu Tho Expressway Project.

At the Tien Giang province bridge, the inauguration ceremony of My Thuan 2 Bridge Project was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai, leaders of central ministries and branches and leaders of neighboring provinces and cities.

At Vinh Long province, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang attended the inauguration ceremony of the My Thuan - Can Tho Expressway Project.

My Thuan 2 Bridge Project is a component project of the North-South Eastern Expressway in the 2017-2020 period approved by the Ministry of Transport.

This is a national key project, a special-grade road traffic project. The total investment of the project is 5,003,064 billion VND from the state budget.

My Thuan 2 Bridge is located on the highway from Ho Chi Minh City to Can Tho City, connecting the two expressways Trung Luong - My Thuan and My Thuan - Can Tho, connecting Vinh Long and Tien Giang provinces.

This is a vital road with the largest traffic volume among the main national highways in the region. The My Thuan 2 Bridge project has a total length of 6.61 km, 350 m upstream from the existing My Thuan Bridge.

The main bridge is about 1.9 km long, has 6 lanes, and a design speed of 80 km/h. The bridge has a main span of 350 m, with 2 towers over 125 m high. The main span has a cable-stayed structure with a span of 350 m, a clearance of 37.5 m, and a bridge deck width of 28 m.

For the first time, the project was carried out entirely by a team of Vietnamese engineers and workers, from project planning, design to construction.

The project started on March 16, 2020. With the strong and regular direction of the Government and the Prime Minister, as well as the support and close coordination of central and local ministries and branches, as well as the efforts of the advisory agencies of the Ministry of Transport, Project Management Board 7, consulting units, and construction contractors, the project has been completed to date.

Once put into use, My Thuan 2 Bridge will connect the expressway from Ho Chi Minh City to Can Tho, helping to shorten the travel time from Ho Chi Minh City to Can Tho from about 3.5 hours to about 2 hours.

My Thuan 2 Bridge will contribute to the completion of the transportation and logistics system in the region. At the same time, it will reduce the increasing traffic pressure on the existing My Thuan Bridge and National Highway 1, meet the increasing demand for freight and passenger transportation, and create conditions to promote economic growth and cultural and social development in the Southwest region.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of My Thuan 2 Bridge Project, Chairman of Tien Giang Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Van Vinh said that the inauguration and putting into use of My Thuan 2 Bridge is very important, aiming to reduce traffic congestion on National Highway 1, My Thuan 1 Bridge; synchronously connecting with Ho Chi Minh City - Trung Luong - My Thuan Expressway and My Thuan - Can Tho Expressway.

This will meet the needs of travel and freight transport, shorten travel time; create synchronous links to effectively promote projects being invested and built in the region, and be the basis for the development of the Mekong Delta in the coming time.

Tien Giang and Vinh Long provinces were assigned to be the investors in site clearance for the My Thuan 2 Bridge Project. The province has focused on directing departments, branches, and localities and closely coordinated with Project Management Board 7 and infrastructure management units to urgently conduct site clearance; stabilize housing and production for people, and relocate technical infrastructure items on schedule according to the direction of the Government, the Prime Minister, and the Ministry of Transport.

My Thuan 2 Bridge was constructed under extremely difficult conditions such as: the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic; difficulties in materials, weather, deep rivers, flowing water...

However, with the high determination to overcome difficulties and challenges of the investor, consulting and construction units, especially the Prime Minister who has inspected the site 5 times to give strong direction, remove difficulties and obstacles; urge, share, encourage and give gifts to the workers at the construction site, creating more motivation so that the project exceeded the set schedule and was inaugurated.

The Chairman of Tien Giang Provincial People's Committee emphasized: This is the joy, excitement and expectation for a better future of the people, Party Committees, and governments of the two provinces of Tien Giang, Vinh Long and the entire Mekong Delta region.
