Opening of the forum "Educating and training staff to effectively implement the introduction of English as a second language in schools"

The event was hosted by the University of Foreign Languages, Danang University, in coordination with the British Council, with the aim of providing practical and feasible directions and solutions in improving the quality of English teaching and learning in the education system.

Attending the forum, there were more than 150 delegates including experts, speakers; teachers from primary, secondary and high schools of Da Nang city, Quang Ngai province and Dak Lak province.

This is the first time the forum has been held, an opportunity for educational managers, experts, researchers and lecturers to exchange and share experiences, and propose solutions to improve professional capacity and pedagogical capacity.

Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Van Long, Rector of the University of Foreign Languages, University of Danang, said: The University of Foreign Languages ​​is one of the only three specialized language universities in the country that is trusted by the Ministry of Education and Training and assigned many important tasks within the framework of the Project on teaching and learning foreign languages ​​in the national education system for the period 2011-2024.

During the implementation of this Project, the school organized training programs to improve foreign language skills, pedagogical skills and testing capacity for about 5,000 English teachers at all levels nationwide, especially in the Central Highlands region.

Making English the second language in the national education system is a major policy of strategic significance, closely linked to the National Project "Making English the second language in schools", a key content in Conclusion No. 91-KL/TW of the Politburo on fundamental and comprehensive innovation in education and training.

This is a long-term orientation, aiming to improve foreign language skills for the young generation, while expanding opportunities for learning, employment, research and international integration in Vietnam.

To realize that goal, the work of training and developing the teaching staff plays a key role.

The forum will contribute to connecting stakeholders, promoting cooperation, and together creating a solid foundation to gradually realize the goal of making English the second language in schools in a sustainable manner, in accordance with Vietnamese educational practices.
