More than 1,000 bags of white rice imported from India to Ben Tre without Vietnamese labels were seized by authorities for processing.

The information has just been announced by the Ben Tre Market Management Department. The above shipment weighs 52 tons with a total value of 624 million VND.

According to authorities, the shipment was imported by a rice trading establishment in An Dinh 2 Hamlet, An Ngai Trung Commune, Ba Tri District, Ben Tre. Through inspection, market management discovered that this establishment had signs of violations in rice trading activities.

This batch of rice did not have a Vietnamese sub-label. The inspection team made a record and temporarily detained the rice for further processing.

This is the largest shipment of rice that authorities have seized since 2022. Last year, the agency also seized 30 tons of rice suspected of being smuggled from India.

According to the General Department of Market Management, the complicated situation of imported rice has greatly affected the domestic rice market. Therefore, this agency is still directing provincial market management departments to strengthen inspection and control to detect and strictly handle acts of smuggling and trade fraud in rice.
