According to Engadget , Google introduced Gemini at I/O 2023, touting it as a platform with impressive multimodal capabilities during training. Google originally planned to launch it before the end of the year, but sources revealed that Gemini was struggling with non-English queries, forcing CEO Sundar Pichai to delay its release.

Gemini is designed to handle a wide range of applications, combining different types of data such as images and text for more advanced tasks. “After extensive refinement and safety testing, Gemini will be available in a variety of sizes and capabilities,” Google said in May.

Gemini is also expected to bring improvements to Google’s existing AI products and enhancements, such as Bard, Google Assistant, and Search. However, given the importance of this release and the market position that dominant rival OpenAI has, Google likely won’t want to risk releasing Gemini too early.
