According to the plan, by the end of June 2023, the Provincial Road 334 Expansion Project will complete construction of items on about 40% of the handed-over area of ​​the entire route. The remaining area, the investor and contractors continue to wait for the local authorities to hand over the site to start construction.

The project to expand provincial road 334 starts at the main road of Cai Rong urban area and ends at the intersection of Van Don Airport - Complex Park. When completed, it will create a traffic axis throughout Van Don Economic Zone, connecting functional subdivisions, cruise ports, general ports and urban areas, scenic tourist areas, and the expressway axis along the province from Bach Dang bridge to Mong Cai international border gate. The project contributes to promoting land area on both sides of the route, increasing the attractiveness of attracting investors to the area.

The project has a total length of 9.5km, a roadbed width of 24-44m, designed with 6 lanes (4 lanes for motor vehicles and 2 lanes for service), a median strip, a green landscape system, lighting and traffic safety infrastructure. There are 2 reinforced concrete bridges on the route, of which bridge No. 1 is 90m long, bridge No. 2 is 333.8m long. The project is invested by the Provincial Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board, with a total capital of nearly 1,500 billion VND from the provincial budget.

However, the current progress of the project is very slow, mainly due to difficulties in site clearance. Specifically, to implement the project, Van Don district must reclaim more than 40 hectares including: Traffic land, land of more than 400 households and organizations located within the boundary. However, after 2 years of implementation, contractors have only organized construction on about 40% of the area handed over by the locality, the remaining locations have not been handed over.

Specifically, for the area of ​​40% of the handed over site, the investor and contractors have completed the construction of 2 bridges on the route. For the road construction items, the construction of the sewer system, longitudinal ditches, lighting, prestressed embankment, reinforced concrete embankment, crushed stone aggregate has been completed and the road surface is being paved, entering the stage of completing the landscape and sidewalks of the route.

According to the representative of the project contractor, with the current progress, in June 2023, the project items of the section that have been handed over the site by Van Don district will be completed. The contractor will clear the construction site, prepare supplies, materials, cast components, and culverts to be ready to organize construction as soon as the remaining site locations are handed over. The contractor also requested that, along with speeding up the progress of site clearance for the remaining locations, there are currently some electric pole locations in the middle of the road on the route, and the local authorities should also promptly direct the resolution to ensure progress according to plan.

Because it is the main route through Van Don Economic Zone, the slow implementation of the Provincial Road 334 expansion project not only affects the lives and travel of local people, but also greatly affects investment attraction plans, directly affecting investors implementing projects along the route.

A representative of CEO Group, the investor of the Sonasea Van Don Harbor City resort complex project, said: Accompanying the province to develop high-class tourism products, it is expected that in the fourth quarter of 2023, the unit will put into operation the Wyndham Garden Sonasea Van Don hotel with 200 rooms of 5-star standard. At the same time, develop other attractive tourism and resort services. However, the slow implementation of the route is affecting the completion of infrastructure connection and promotion, attracting tourists. In particular, the completion of electricity, water, and telecommunications infrastructure for the project cannot be implemented because it must be buried underground along the route. This is greatly affecting the unit's business plan and strategy.

For Van Don Economic Zone, Provincial Road 334 is considered an important backbone to promote and connect functional zones, tourism, resort and commodity products, scenic tourist areas and is a driving force for the locality to increase investment attraction, implement development plans... Therefore, at this stage when the construction site is full, related units and localities need to urgently and more actively remove difficulties in terms of site so that the project can continue to be implemented and completed.
