Foreign exchange points in the free market this morning (April 19) commonly bought and sold USD around 25,680-25,760 VND/USD. This is the highest selling price of USD in the free market ever.
Compared to the previous session, the free USD price today increased by 160 VND for buying and increased by 90 VND for selling.
Today's free USD price has far exceeded the old peak set on March 11. On March 11, the USD price was traded around 25,500-25,700 VND/USD (buy - sell).
Thus, compared to March 11, the free USD price today has increased by 180 VND for buying and 60 VND for selling.
Since the beginning of the year, the free USD price has increased by about 1,060 VND in both buying and selling directions.
In the official market, the USD price continued to increase strongly and set a new historical peak.
The central exchange rate announced by the State Bank on April 19 was 24,260 VND/USD, an increase of 29 VND compared to the previously listed rate. This is the highest price of the central exchange rate ever.
Since the beginning of the week, the central exchange rate has increased by 178 VND.
Applying a 5% margin, today, commercial banks are allowed to trade at a ceiling rate of VND25,473/USD and a floor rate of VND23,047/USD.
The reference selling rate was also increased by 58 VND by the State Bank of Vietnam, while the buying rate remained unchanged, bringing the buying and selling range to 23,400-25,450 VND/USD.
The USD/VND exchange rate at commercial banks continues to be adjusted upward, increasing by 30-80 VND for buying and 30-33 VND for selling compared to the trading session before the Hung Kings' Commemoration Day holiday. The USD selling price at many banks is about to reach 25,500 VND/USD.
Many banks continued to raise the USD price to the maximum allowed level and far exceeded the reference selling price at the State Bank of Vietnam. This is the fourth consecutive session that the USD exchange rate at banks has been listed at the maximum level.
According to a survey at 1:54 p.m. on April 19, Vietcombank listed the USD price at 25,133-25,473 VND/USD (buy - sell), an increase of 33 VND in both buying and selling compared to noon on April 17. This is the highest listed USD price at this bank ever.
Similarly, early this afternoon, VietinBank increased the USD price by 80 VND for buying and 30 VND for selling compared to noon on April 17, buying at 25,182 VND/USD and selling at 25,473 VND/USD.
Techcombank bought USD at 25,227 VND/USD early this afternoon and sold at 25,473 VND/USD, up 30 VND in buying and 31 VND in selling compared to noon on April 17.
Sacombank listed the USD price at 25,245-25,470 VND/USD (buy - sell), an increase of 75 VND for buying and 30 VND for selling compared to noon on April 17.
The buying price of USD at banks is about 500 VND lower and the selling price of USD is also nearly 300 VND lower than the free market.
In the world market, the USD price tends to slow down after reaching its highest level since November 2023.
The US Dollar Index (measuring the greenback's fluctuations against six major currencies) at 2:13 p.m. on April 19, Vietnam time, was at 106.11 points, down 0.03% from the previous session.
