Erling Haaland scored a total of 36 goals this season and achieved 72 points, far surpassing competitors such as Harry Kane (30 goals - 60 points) or Kylian Mbappe (29 goals - 58 points).
The remaining two names in the top 5 race for the European Golden Shoe title are Alexandre Lacazette (27 goals-54 points) and Victor Osimhen (26 goals-52 points).
Players playing in the top 5 European national championships (England, Italy, Germany, Spain, France) will be counted as having a coefficient of 2 for each goal. Leagues outside the top 5 will be counted as having coefficients of 1.5 and 1 respectively.
The European Golden Shoe was first awarded in 1968 to striker Eusebio, with 42 goals for Benfica in the Portuguese championship.
In history, only two players have won more than these two awards, Lionel Messi with 6 awards and Cristiano Ronaldo with 4 awards.
Striker Robert Lewandowski, the star who won the European Golden Shoe in two consecutive seasons (2020/21 and 2021/22) for Bayern Munich, this year only ranked 7th in the race with 23 goals and 46 points when moving to Barcelona.
Erling Haaland is the first Premier League player to win the European Golden Shoe in nine years.
Previously, the last Premier League star to do this was Luis Suarez in the 2013/14 season. The Uruguayan striker scored 31 goals for Liverpool and shared the award with Cristiano Ronaldo (31 goals for Real Madrid).
In addition to the European Golden Shoe, Erling Haaland also "received" a lot of titles when he was honored as the Top Scorer, Player of the Season, Best Young Player by the Premier League Organizing Committee and the best player award voted by the English Football Journalists Association (FWA).
Erling Haaland is on the verge of a historic treble with Man City as they prepare for the most important match of the season, the UEFA Champions League final against Inter Milan on June 11.
