Unique Ngoc Linh ginseng competition

On the morning of August 1, in Nam Tra My commune, more than 70 households from Tra Linh, Tra Tap, Tra Van, Tra Leng and Nam Tra My communes brought nearly 200 Ngoc Linh ginseng plants to compete in the ginseng contest of the 7th Ngoc Linh Ginseng Festival - 2025.

The ginseng plants competing in the contest are divided into 4 age groups: 5 - 7 years, 8 - 10 years, 11 - 15 years and over 15 years. The ginseng roots that made it to the final round are not only of the right breed and age, but also have a special shape: balanced stem - leaves - tubers - roots, no pests, no deformities, no use of chemicals and have clear origin confirmation from the communes.

Mr. Ho Van Dang, a member of the jury, commented: "There are ginseng roots that are nearly 20 years old, with tall stems, winding roots like flying dragons, ginseng flowers growing evenly, and roots firmly attached to the base as if embracing the forest soil. These are healthy ginseng plants that grow naturally in harsh conditions."

Ms. Ho Thi Thuy Ngan, owner of Tuan Ngan business (Nam Tra My commune) brought to the contest a 2-branch ginseng root, competing in the 8-10 year old group. Ms. Ngan said that this ginseng root was grown in her garden in Tra Linh commune, growing in harsh conditions so the ginseng plant developed unusually and uniquely.

"This is the most unique ginseng root in the garden, so I brought it to the competition with the hope of exchanging. Most of the ginseng roots participating in the competition have their own characteristics," said Ms. Ngan.

The contest aims to standardize the process of evaluating the quality of Ngoc Linh ginseng in the area, from origin, age to physical standards, contributing to fighting counterfeit goods and protecting the value of real ginseng in the context of an increasingly complex market.

Mr. Nguyen Hong Nhan, Vice Chairman of Nam Tra My Commune People's Committee, Head of the contest organizing committee, said that this is also an opportunity to educate the ginseng growing community about technical standards, helping people realize the true value of the ginseng being preserved.

Every year, the quantity and quality of ginseng participating in the contest is improved, showing the transformation of people from spontaneous production to professional and sustainable production.
