The 2024 Asian Open Pickleball Championship (APBA 2024), taking place in Jiangxi (China) from October 31 to November 4, is a major pickleball tournament organized by the APBA Alliance with the aim of expanding the international presence of this sport. The tournament brings together top Asian players, creating opportunities for players to exchange and learn international experience.

Participating in this tournament, the Vietnamese pickleball team with the participation of athlete Vu Thanh Duong (captain) and a series of prominent names in the Vietnamese pickleball community such as: Nguyen Anh Thang, Tran Huyen Trang, Phan Van Bao, Le Xuan Duc and the famous U16 player Sophia Phuong Anh (Tran Phuong Anh), competed with athletes in the continent in many events.

The competitions that the Vietnamese team participated in include: Team category; 50+ men's doubles, 50+ mixed doubles, 19+ men's doubles, 19+ women's doubles, 19+ mixed doubles, men's singles and women's singles.

Throughout the matches, the Vietnamese team members demonstrated perseverance, skillful playing strategies, and excellent coordination, helping the team advance deep into the tournament and win the proud Silver Medal.

Sophia Phuong Anh is a prominent face of the Vietnamese pickleball team, owning 8 gold medals from 3 major international tournaments. Participating in this tournament, Sophia competed in 3 categories: women's doubles; mixed doubles and women's singles.

In particular, in the women's doubles category with athlete Venise Chan, Sophia Phuong Anh and her teammates won the gold medal after a thrilling score chase of 15-14, 12-15, 15-12. In the women's singles category, Sophia continued to make her mark with many excellent goals, bringing home the bronze medal for the Vietnamese pickleball team.

Before coming to APBA 2024, Phuong Anh won 2 gold medals at PPA Tour 2024, 4 gold medals at the World Pickleball Championship Series (WPC) and 2 gold medals in U16 women's singles and U16 women's doubles at the 2024 Asian Open youth pickleball tournament in less than 2 months.
