Handwriting in the digital age

In the digital age, handwriting is no longer the main tool in transactions and social communication. However, beautiful handwriting still has timeless aesthetic and cultural value. Handwriting is a mark of personal creativity, and each individual's beautiful handwriting is a piece of the common heritage: Vietnamese writing.

Practice handwriting, practice character

The convenience of technology has made many people forget the habit of writing by hand. Looking back at letters, poems, and diaries written by hand in the past, appearing again on the media or social networks, today's readers can see the personality and inner thoughts of the writer in the handwriting.

The good news is that there are still many parents, students, and people who love the beauty of Vietnamese writing and appreciate handwriting, and many people want their children and themselves to practice handwriting patiently and quietly. There are teachers and calligraphy centers that still train and inspire generations of students about beautiful handwriting.

Computers can give us many beautiful fonts, but perhaps only handwriting has warmth. When each person writes a line, they are creating a part of their own memory, and also contributing to the memory of the whole community. Beautiful handwriting, therefore, is not simply about appearance, but also an expression of depth.

According to teacher Hoang Thi Phuong, Linh Phuong Beautiful Calligraphy Center: In the current digital age, practicing beautiful calligraphy is not to fight against technology, but to balance. Handwriting can stimulate memory, increase concentration and especially, bring true feelings and connections between the writer and the reader. With the powerful support of technology, today's handwriting no longer plays an absolute role in the concept of "handwriting, character", but is still an effective tool to practice perseverance, discipline and aesthetic perception.

Many teachers and parents are well aware of the importance of practicing beautiful handwriting and board presentation, so they cultivate and improve their skills. Practicing handwriting is also practicing a profession, a way to show responsibility, neatness and respect for the teaching profession.

Ms. Do Thuy Trang, a private kindergarten teacher in Phan Dinh Phung ward, shared: When I was a student, I attended a calligraphy class at Linh Phuong center. Now I bring my child here to learn calligraphy. Calligraphy training has helped me a lot in my child education activities...

Teacher Hua Thi Thin, Song Cau Primary School, Linh Son Commune, said: Teaching writing to primary school students is very important. I want to improve my skills in guiding children to learn to write and my skills in presenting chalkboards to better serve my work. From a correct stroke, students can learn carefulness, responsibility and respect for their teachers' work.

Nurturing love for Vietnamese

Unique
Unique "Where Vietnamese calligraphy converges and shines" produced by Linh Phuong Calligraphy Training Center.

Also stemming from practical needs and love of beautiful handwriting, teacher Hoang Thi Phuong founded Linh Phuong Beautiful Handwriting Training Center, Thai Nguyen in 2006.

The center is a place where students of all ages share and practice writing skills, affirming the immutable value of handwriting, a channel to preserve memories and personal identity that cannot be copied.

Not only is it a place to practice calligraphy, the Center also maintains many community activities for pedagogical students, creating inspiration for future teachers about writing. These are free exchanges and calligraphy competitions organized by the Center for final year students and young teachers.

Spreading knowledge is a responsibility, helping others stand firm on the podium is the way teacher Hoang Thi Phuong wants to show gratitude to the teaching profession that she has cherished and devoted her whole life to. Ms. Phuong is also the author of a copyrighted set of calligraphy practice books and calligraphy lesson plans. She is also known as a talented, emotional calligrapher who is familiar in festivals and cultural events of the education sector and the locality. That love and talent have also been taught by her to many students who love and create artistic Vietnamese calligraphy at the Center.

A special thing that not many people know, the unique copy of "Where Vietnamese calligraphy converges and shines" is currently on display at the Museum of Vietnamese Ethnic Cultures, made by Linh Phuong Calligraphy Training Center, and has just been certified by VietKings to set a Vietnamese Record on June 17, 2025.

This unique edition includes 1,018 handwritten, beautiful, typical articles, along with calligraphy samples, beautiful chalkboards of teachers, students at the Center and people who love beautiful writing in many localities across the country. With 18 topics about the Party, beloved Uncle Ho, about love for the homeland, family, teacher-student relationships, to deep, emotional words of gratitude, designed and presented very elaborately, creating a special impression for viewers.

The influence of the work comes from each article, like a small work of art that individuals have devoted all their feelings to, showing meticulousness, sophistication, as well as personal imprints in it. The work creates a unique piece that truly inspires the love of Vietnamese writing, the artistic beauty of traditional writing, and the endless creative spirit of the Vietnamese people.

The value of handwriting is immutable. Like other traditional values, beautiful handwriting deserves to be recognized as a “soft heritage”. Practicing beautiful handwriting is also a way to nurture the love of Vietnamese and preserve the cultural values of the mother tongue.
