On the afternoon of May 22, President Vo Van Thuong and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received Chairman of the United Russia Party and Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev, who is visiting Vietnam.
President Vo Van Thuong assessed the significance of Mr. Dmitry Medvedev's visit as an opportunity for the two sides to discuss orientations in Vietnam-Russia cooperation, including cooperation between the two Parties and two States.
Chairman of the United Russia Party Dmitry Medvedev affirmed that the Russian Federation attaches great importance to the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with Vietnam. Russian senior leaders, including the United Russia Party, are interested in developing relations with Vietnam as one of the top priorities and an important partner in the region.
The President said that Vietnam consistently pursues a foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralization and diversification; and always remembers the support and assistance that the people of the former Soviet Union gave to Vietnam.
Vietnam attaches importance to the Vietnam-Russia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and wishes to continue developing the traditional friendship and Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with Russia for the benefit of the two countries and for the prosperity of the two peoples.

On this occasion, President Vo Van Thuong thanked Russia for continuing to provide annual scholarships for Vietnamese students at Russian educational institutions. Vietnamese leaders believe that the 4th meeting of the Vietnam-Russia Cooperation Committee on Education, Science and Technology scheduled to be held later this year will open up many new cooperation opportunities.
The two leaders agreed to continue promoting people-to-people exchanges, including among the younger generation; and promoting the role of friendship associations between the two countries, in order to enhance understanding and preserve the good values of the traditional friendship with a history of nearly 75 years.
President Vo Van Thuong thanked and asked the Russian leadership, government and the United Russia Party to continue to pay attention and create conditions for the Vietnamese community in Russia to live, do business and study long-term and stably.
Receiving the Chairman of the United Russia Party, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said that Mr. Medvedev's visit is an opportunity for the two sides to discuss cooperation between the two Parties and two countries, enhance mutual understanding, and agree on cooperation measures.
Chairman of the United Russia Party Dmitry Medvedev thanked Vietnam for the warm welcome and affirmed that Vietnam is one of Russia's important partners in the Asia-Pacific region, especially in Southeast Asia.
Russia wishes to further develop with Vietnam the fields in which both sides have strengths and needs in order to meet the wishes of the people and the development requirements of each country.
The Prime Minister affirmed that Vietnam always perseveres in its foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, peace, friendship, cooperation and development, diversification and multilateralization; actively integrates into the international community; is a friend, a reliable partner, and an active and responsible member of the international community.
Vietnam always appreciates the valuable support and assistance that the Russian people have given to Vietnam in the past as well as in the cause of national construction and development today, and values and wishes to develop the traditional friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership with Russia.
For his part, Mr. Medvedev affirmed that the United Russia Party always supports the development of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with Vietnam, maintaining and strengthening traditional cooperation areas, while expanding in economics, trade, investment, culture, tourism, local cooperation, and people-to-people exchange.
The two leaders were pleased with the results of bilateral cooperation, including the successful organization of the 24th meeting of the Vietnam-Russia Intergovernmental Committee on economic-trade and scientific-technical cooperation.
The two sides agreed that, in the context of the global economy facing many difficulties and challenges, it is necessary to take measures to enhance the effectiveness of cooperation, in the spirit of harmonizing interests and sharing difficulties; promoting and deepening cooperation in areas such as energy, oil and gas, science and technology, education and training, etc.
On this occasion, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh hopes that President Medvedev and the United Russia Party will continue to contribute their voices and support the completion of the legal basis for the Vietnamese community to continue living, studying and doing business long-term in Russia.

Tonight, Politburo member, Permanent member of the Secretariat, Head of the Central Organization Commission Truong Thi Mai hosted a reception for Chairman of the United Russia Party, Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev and his delegation.
