Tech firms tackle AI-generated child sexual abuse

The UK announced the joint statement – ​​which counts the US, Germany and Australia among its 27 signatories – at an event on Monday (October 30), ahead of a UK-hosted global summit on AI safety this week.

“We are committed to maintaining dialogue and technical innovation around addressing child sexual abuse in the age of AI,” the statement said. “We are committed to working together to ensure that we use AI responsibly to address the threat of child sexual abuse…”

He cited data from the Internet Watch Foundation showing that on a dark web forum, users shared nearly 3,000 AI-generated images and materials of child sexual abuse.

“It is vital that we lead by example and stop the misuse of this emerging technology before it has a chance to fully take root,” said IWF CEO Susie Hargreaves.
