On the morning of June 15, the University of Forestry (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) held a meeting with leaders, former officials, former students, businesses and partners to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the school's founding (1964-2024) and at the same time give suggestions to help the school's training activities develop further.
Speaking at the meeting, Prof. Dr. Pham Van Dien - Rector of the Forestry University introduced the history of the establishment and development of the school. Accordingly, the Forestry University was established on August 19, 1964. From 1964 to 1984, the school was headquartered in the Dong Trieu evacuation area (Quang Ninh). During this period, the school carried out the task of training university-level human resources for the Forestry industry. The whole school had 3 faculties, training 4 majors in the Forestry field.
From 1984 to present, the School is headquartered in Xuan Mai town, Chuong My district, Hanoi city. With the goal of training highly qualified human resources in the fields of forestry, agriculture and rural development...
Currently, the University of Forestry has also established two branches in Dong Nai and Gia Lai provinces.

Prof. Dr. Pham Van Dien affirmed that after 60 years of construction and development, the University of Forestry has always maintained its leading position in the forestry sector. Up to now, the University has trained and provided the country with over 60,000 engineers and bachelors, nearly 6,500 masters, over 150 doctors and trained over 500 engineers, masters and doctors for Laos and Cambodia. The sectors of agriculture, forestry, natural resources and environment account for about 50%, 20%, 60% respectively for undergraduate, masters and doctoral levels.
With the educational philosophy of "practicality - creativity - responsibility - efficiency", Prof. Dr. Pham Van Dien said that in the coming time, the school will continue to expand its "development space" in terms of form, content and integration.
According to Prof. Dr. Pham Van Dien, to review the tradition, honor the achievements of 60 years of construction and development, express gratitude and acknowledge the contributions of generations of students, officials and employees of the school; connect generations of students, trainees, partners as well as promote the image of the school to society and international friends, the University of Forestry will hold a celebration on November 16.
In addition to the 60th anniversary celebration, the University will also have a series of activities organized such as: Youth Camp at the Headquarters, Dong Nai and Gia Lai Branches; Exhibition of achievements in the agricultural sector; International Conference and meeting with former teachers and students of Faculties and Institutes...
Currently, the Forestry University offers 6 PhD programs, 12 Master programs (1 program taught in English), 28 Bachelor programs (1 program taught in English) and 5 distance learning programs. The photo shows the campus of the Forestry University.
Sharing their feelings at the meeting, many generations of teachers of the school and former students of many generations could not hide their pride in the school with its long history, which has trained many talented cadres, contributing to the development of the forestry sector in particular and the agricultural sector in general for the country.
Honored to be one of 150 students attending the first opening ceremony of the Forestry University in Dong Trieu, Quang Ninh province, Mr. Nguyen Van Tu - former Party Secretary, former Principal of the Forestry University expressed his excitement to meet again with former students and teachers of the Forestry University through the periods.
After graduating, Mr. Tu continued to dedicate more than 30 years of his career to the Forestry University, so he understood all the changes and ups and downs of the school. "In 60 years of formation and development, the school has had different times, but the forestry industry has always produced heroes. Many students after graduating from this school have held very high positions in the Central, provincial and district levels, contributing to the development of the country and the forestry industry," he proudly said.

Although not a former student of the Forestry University, former Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Hua Duc Nhi also expressed pride when he was assigned to direct the forestry sector during his time as Deputy Minister.
Mr. Nhi said that it was this "fate" that gave him a "love" for the forest and until later, when he retired, he continued to work and contribute to the forestry industry as Chairman of the Vietnam Forest Owners Association.
According to Mr. Nhi, for the Forestry University to develop sustainably, it must have a "certain orientation", originating from the needs of learners and society, and should not "follow the market economy". In addition, the school needs to have a more suitable industry organization system.

As a business operating in the forestry sector, Mr. Le Quoc Khanh - General Director of Vietnam Forestry Corporation said that he was very pleased to cooperate with Vietnam Forestry University in training activities. At the same time, he said that the business is ready to welcome students and trainees of the school to do internships as well as award scholarships to students with high academic achievements and support the school's facilities.
"The Forestry University is the leading training institution in the country in forestry, so we are committed to accompanying and supporting the school in training activities. In addition to the knowledge learned in school, students can practice and gain practical knowledge in the Company's working environment, helping them to be confident, love their profession, and stick with the industry," Mr. Khanh shared.

During 60 years of construction and development, the University of Forestry has built and had the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development approve the School Development Strategy for the period 2006-2020, with a vision to 2030, and adjusted and supplemented for the period 2013-2020, with a vision to 2030.
With its achievements, the Forestry University has been awarded many noble titles: Hero of Labor in the Renovation Period in 2009; First Class Independence Medal in 2014, Second Class in 2004, Third Class in 1994; First Class Labor Medal in 1989, Third Class in 1984 and 1996; Second Class Labor Medal in 2006 for Campus 2; Emulation Flag of the Government in 2008. The school was also awarded by the State of the Lao PDR: Freedom Medal in 1984; Friendship Medal in 2000. The school was also awarded the Emulation Flag of the Ministry of Education and Training in 1993; Ministry of National Defense in 2000; Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (in 2003, 2007, 2013) and many Certificates of Merit from Ministries, Departments, Branches, provincial and district administrative units, etc.
