Measles cases from other provinces coming to Ho Chi Minh City for examination and treatment increased sharply.

On October 29, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health said that while the number of measles patients in the city has begun to decrease, the number of measles cases from surrounding provinces coming to hospitals in the city for examination and treatment has continued to increase sharply in the past two weeks.

In week 43 alone (October 21 to October 27), the number of cases from other provinces treated at four hospitals in the city was 255, an increase of 43% compared to the average of the previous 4 weeks, including 209 inpatient cases.

Since the beginning of the year, hospitals in the city have treated a total of 3,139 measles cases, of which 58% came from other provinces.

Doctor Luong Chan Quang - in charge of the disease control and prevention department of Pasteur Institute - said that currently the number of measles cases in 19 southern provinces (except Ho Chi Minh City) is increasing very rapidly, but fortunately the outbreak has very few people, mainly spontaneous cases.

Doctor Quang said that if samples are taken for testing, the positive measles test rate in the city is over 85%, and in other provinces and cities it is 90%.

The current age of measles in the Southern region is still increasing, from 1 to 10 years old, and the provinces are also implementing vaccination campaigns.

In addition, in the provinces, the number of cases is increasing, and there have been outbreaks among adults in factories and enterprises.
