Belgium disappointed in the group stage of EURO 2024 when they only finished second in the group. This forced Kevin De Bruyne and his teammates to face France in the round of 16. Despite their best efforts, Belgium still had to accept defeat with a final score of 0-1 after 90 minutes of play. An own goal by center-back Jan Vertonghen ended the "Red Devils" journey at EURO 2024.

After the match, reporter Tancredi Palmeri asked De Bruyne: "What do you think when the golden generation of Belgian football could not reach a final?". The captain of the Belgian team responded with the question: "So what do you think the golden generation is?".

The reporter said: "I'm referring to your golden generation". De Bruyne replied with annoyance: "Our golden generation? You mean France, Spain, England, Germany don't have a golden generation? Okay, thanks". Then the Belgian midfielder stood up, left the press conference room and said that the question was stupid.

Reporter Tancredi Palmeri posted on social network X to criticize De Bruyne: "He called me an idiot. Hey Kevin, the golden generation of France, England, Spain and Germany are all in the final. Mediocre footballers just want to hear flattery. What a spoiled brat."

The Belgian national team's performance has declined significantly in recent years. The "Red Devils" were eliminated from the group stage of the 2022 World Cup and failed to advance past the round of 16 at EURO 2024.
