Thanh Hoa Children's Hospital said that after 17 days of post-operative treatment, the health of a 7-year-old boy (living in Thanh Hoa) has stabilized and has just been discharged from the hospital.

Previously, on November 3, the Urology Department of Thanh Hoa Children's Hospital received emergency treatment for a 7-year-old boy who was bitten by a dog and suffered genital injuries, including a swollen penis, peeling skin, and a hematoma measuring 4 x 3 cm.

Doctors at Thanh Hoa Children's Hospital performed surgery to debride, clean the wound, suture the urethra, restore the erection, and reconstruct the penis skin. After 17 days of surgery, the patient recovered well, was in stable health, and was discharged from the hospital.

Relatives of the patient said that while playing with the family dog, the boy was suddenly bitten in the genitals by the dog.

Doctor Luu Tien Dung, Deputy Head of the Department of Urology at Thanh Hoa Children's Hospital, said that every year the hospital receives many cases of children being hospitalized due to dog bites, some of which are very seriously injured, with serious damage to the head and face. Therefore, people need to be careful of dog and cat bites, especially children.

Dr. Dung also recommends that when bitten by a dog, the wound should be treated promptly. If the wound is small, not bleeding or bleeding little, the wound should be washed with soap under running water; for large wounds, the bleeding should be stopped by pressing the wound with gauze or clean cloth, avoiding bruising the wound, not covering the wound tightly, and going immediately to the nearest medical center for timely advice and rabies vaccination.
