The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said that this morning, October 17, the low pressure area in the sea southwest of the Hoang Sa archipelago has strengthened into a tropical depression.

At 10:00 a.m., the center of the tropical depression was at about 15.5 degrees north latitude; 110.7 degrees east longitude, about 150 km southwest of Hoang Sa archipelago. The tropical depression was strong at level 6 (39 - 49 km/h), gusting to level 8, moving northwest at 5 - 10 km per hour.

In the next 24 hours, the tropical depression is likely to strengthen into a storm.

At around 10am on October 18, the eye of the storm was at around 16.9 degrees north latitude; 109.2 degrees east longitude on the sea from Quang Tri to Da Nang. The storm was at level 8, gusting to level 10.

At about 10:00 a.m. on October 19, the center of the storm was at about 18.9 degrees north latitude; 107.8 degrees east longitude in the sea south of the Gulf of Tonkin.

From the next 48 to 72 hours, the storm continues to move in a west-northwest direction, traveling about 5 - 10 km per hour.

Due to the influence of the storm, the southwestern sea area of ​​the northern East Sea (including the sea area of ​​Hoang Sa archipelago), the sea area from Quang Tri to Quang Ngai has winds gradually increasing to level 6 - level 7, then increasing to level 8, gusting to level 10, rough seas.

The southwestern sea area of ​​the northern East Sea (including the sea area of ​​Hoang Sa archipelago), waves are 2 - 4 m high.

From October 17 to 19, heavy rain will occur in the area from Quang Tri to Quang Nam; moderate rain, heavy rain, and very heavy rain in Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, and Quang Ngai. From October 19, heavy rain is likely in the Northern and North Central regions; heavy rain in the Central Central region will gradually decrease.
