Recently, Thai Hong Quynh Chi, a student of class 9C3, Archimedes Secondary School, became the runner-up in the 10th grade entrance exam in Hanoi with a total score of 48.25 points, in which Chi scored 10 in Math, 9.75 in English and 9.25 in Literature. In addition, with 9.2 points in specialized subjects, the female student also became the valedictorian of the Chemistry specialized class of Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted.

Previously, Chi had "secured" admission to 3 other specialized schools in Hanoi, including Chemistry major with a scholarship from Hanoi National University of Education High School for the Gifted, directly admitted to the Chemistry major class of Natural Science High School thanks to the city's First Prize, and French major with a scholarship from Foreign Language High School.

“When I received the results, I was surprised because I thought there were many students who were better than me,” Quynh Chi said.

Since she was a child, Chi has shown a talent for learning languages. Therefore, Ms. Phan Mai Hoa, Chi's mother, tried to expose her daughter to English from the age of 3. When Chi was studying at Kim Lien Primary School, because she wanted her child to have an environment to practice English, she began to accompany and guide her child to prepare for entrance exams to high-quality and international schools.

During that time, she accompanied her child by "lurking" in study groups to print materials for her child to study. During the Covid-19 pandemic, when she had to stay at home a lot, the mother and child often turned on CNN news to listen and practice English. Thanks to that, Chi was equipped with quite good English skills. In addition to her mother, Chi's father also often tutored and guided her in Math when he had free time.

Thanks to that, when she entered secondary school, Chi passed the entrance exams to Archimedes Secondary School, Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, Hanoi Star School and the DGS joint program of Doan Thi Diem Secondary School.

“Because my child was quite small, the whole family decided to let him study at the DGS system with the hope that his studies would not be too stressful,” Ms. Hoa recalled.

However, when Chi was about to enter 8th grade, she was exposed to Chemistry and began to enjoy pursuing this subject. In order for her child to have a better development environment and to be suitable for the specialized exam orientation, Ms. Hoa decided to transfer her child to Archimedes Secondary School.

According to Ms. Hoa, after her daughter transferred schools, her parents could no longer guide her because the knowledge started to become more difficult. Both of them could only accompany her by supporting her whenever she needed documents or seeking help from teachers if she wanted to supplement any content or knowledge.

When moving to a new school, Chi also encountered many "gaps". However, according to Ms. Hoa, Chi was "quite stubborn and mentally strong". In addition, the mother and daughter also received help from classmates and many other parents.

“When I see that I am lacking compared to my friends, I try to improve myself. Whenever I decide to do something, I am very determined and work hard towards my goal,” said Ms. Hoa.

After a short time, the female student rose up, then won the city's first prize in Chemistry and was admitted directly to the High School for the Gifted in Natural Sciences.

With the Foreign Language major, because she had studied English for a long time, Chi wanted to try her hand at the French major because she felt interested in this language after a period of exposure. As a result, the female student was also admitted to the school with very high scores and won a scholarship.

Despite achieving many high results in recent exams, Chi admits that she is not very good at any subject. “I am not the type of person who only studies. I always try to balance it by having about 1 hour of entertainment every day to help my mind relax and not be so pressured that I lose my inspiration to study,” Chi said.

Female students often choose study time, usually 8-10 pm, to focus fully and always feel that studying is most effective.

Having worked with Chi for 2 years and directly taught Chemistry, Mr. Nguyen Minh Tuan assessed that Quynh Chi had good resilience, was meticulous, and studied all subjects, especially English. Chi studied quite well in Chemistry, once ranked third in the city and won first prize.

“Chi is a student who transferred to Archimedes. She did not have many advantages in Chemistry when she transferred from an international school. However, Chi kept trying, it only took her about 3 months to catch up with the class and then jumped up, winning a series of achievements,” said Mr. Tuan.

Loving natural subjects, Chi decided to pursue a specialized Chemistry class at Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted in the near future. "I think this will be a more suitable environment for me because in the future, I do not intend to participate in national and international competitions but will focus on participating in extracurricular activities, improving skills to prepare for studying abroad," Chi said.
