According to the submission to the City People's Council for consideration and approval of the Project to adjust the general planning of Hanoi Capital to 2045, with a vision to 2065, the second airport of the capital region will be located in the southern area of ​​the Northwest Expressway - National Highway 5B, between the Phap Van - Cau Gie Expressway, National Highway 1A, the North-South high-speed railway, the North-South Thong Nhat Railway and the Southern economic traffic axis.

Experts say the capital's second airport, located right next to Thuong Tin, will create economic development momentum for the entire region.

Southern city of the capital formed

Specifically, according to the Project to adjust the general planning of Hanoi Capital to 2045, with a vision to 2065, in addition to the two western and northern cities previously studied, Hanoi proposes to plan the southern city.

The Southern urban area is planned according to the airport urban model, forming a comprehensive transportation service center for air, rail (national railway, North-South high-speed railway, urban railway), waterway (Red River), road (Phap Van - Cau Gie expressway, National Highway 1, Southern axis), becoming an important traffic hub of the Northern region, the southern gateway urban area of ​​the Capital.
