Early morning of July 30, Vietnam time, the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) issued a statement on the achievements of the national team at the 56th International Chemistry Olympiad (ICHO) held in Saudi Arabia.

Accordingly, all 4/4 members of the team won medals, 3 Gold, 1 Silver.

One of the 3 Gold medals belongs to student Giap Vu Son Ha - Bac Giang High School for the Gifted.

Notably, just 2 days before, 5/5 members of the Vietnamese team won medals at the 2024 International Physics Olympiad (IPhO) held in Iran with 2 Gold and 3 Silver. Both Gold medals belonged to 2 students Than The Cong and Truong Phi Hung - Bac Giang High School for the Gifted.

Surpassing famous names such as Natural Science High School, University of Education High School, Tran Phu High School, etc., Bac Giang High School for the Gifted has risen to the top in terms of the number of Gold medals in this year's international Olympics.

Before bringing miracles to the school, the three faces Giap Vu Son Ha, Than The Cong and Truong Phi Hung "made a stir" in international competitions since 2023.

Giap Vu Son Ha, from Tan Yen district, Bac Giang province, won first prize in the national excellent student exam in chemistry for the 2022-2023 school year and was valedictorian in the national excellent student exam in chemistry for the 2023-2024 school year.

Last year, when she was in grade 11, Ha won the Silver Medal at the Abu Reikhan Beruniy International Chemistry Olympiad. She was also the contestant with the highest theoretical score in the Vietnamese delegation with 57.85/70.

Truong Phi Hung is from Lang Giang district, Bac Giang province. He is the valedictorian of the national physics exam for excellent students in the 2023-2024 school year.

Hung won the Bronze medal at the 2022 Unlimited Physics Olympiad, the Silver medal at the 2023 European Physics Olympiad, and the Bronze medal at the 2024 Asia-Pacific Physics Olympiad.

Than The Cong won the Bronze medal at the 2023 Asia-Pacific Physics Olympiad, the only Gold medal winner of the Vietnamese team at the 2024 Asia-Pacific Physics Olympiad, and ranked 30th out of 200 contestants worldwide participating in the exam.

The two teachers in charge of training and coaching the school's physics and chemistry teams are Mr. Vuong Truong Son and Mr. Nguyen Van Doa.

According to the school, from 1996 to present, Bac Giang High School for the Gifted has had 7 students participating in the Asian, European and international Olympics with 13 medals. In the 2023-2024 years alone, the school has 6 medals.

"This is the sweet fruit of a long process of investment in training and nurturing excellent students at the national, regional and international levels," Mr. Tran Duy Phuong, Principal of Bac Giang High School for the Gifted, shared with Dan Tri .

Mr. Phuong said that the school's key training work has been implemented for many years and has received attention and investment in both spirit and material from leaders at all levels.

The school is given full authority in selecting teachers, with a rigorous process to select the highest quality teachers, while focusing on training the team for many years.

Similarly, the selection of students for the team is also strictly organized.

"The school does not set goals for each year but has a long-term plan, setting goals for each 5-10 year period in all natural science subjects including math, physics, chemistry, biology and information technology.

"Education needs a long way to achieve success. It also needs special factors, students who are truly passionate about learning. Combining these factors can create miracles," said Mr. Phuong.

Regarding the rewards for students and teachers with international achievements, Mr. Tran Duy Phuong said "not many".

Previously, Than The Cong was awarded 43.2 million VND from the provincial emulation and reward fund and 150 million VND from the provincial scholarship fund for the Gold medal at the Asia-Pacific Physics Olympiad.

Truong Phi Hung won a bronze medal at this competition and was awarded 18 million VND from the emulation and reward fund and 50 million VND from the scholarship fund. In addition, Hung was awarded 100 million VND for his silver medal at the European Physics Olympiad.

The highest reward currently belongs to Giap Vu Son Ha with 200 million VND for his Silver medal achievement at the Abu Reikhan Beruniy International Chemistry Olympiad.

Direct training teachers are awarded from 15.6 million VND to 40 million VND depending on the scale of the exam and the color of the student's medal.
