2 students from Ha Tinh won 2 Gold Medals at the International Mathematical Olympiad

(Baohatinh.vn) - At the 2025 International Mathematics Olympiad, Tran Minh Hoang (Ha Tinh High School for the Gifted) and Vo Trong Khai (Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted, Nghe An) - 2 students from the old Nghi Xuan district, Ha Tinh both excellently won gold medals.

The Ministry of Education and Training has just announced the official results of the Vietnam National Team participating in the International Mathematics Olympiad (IMO) 2025 in Australia.

Specifically, Tran Minh Hoang (grade 12 Math 1, Ha Tinh High School for the Gifted) and Vo Trong Khai (grade 12, Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted, Nghe An) excelled over many international competitors to win the Gold Medal at the 2025 International Mathematical Olympiad, bringing glory to the school and Ha Tinh province with scores of 35 and 38 points, respectively.

The 2025 International Mathematical Olympiad will be held in Australia from July 10 to 20, with the official exam dates being July 15 and 16. This year, contestants will come from nearly 100 countries and territories.

Candidates are given the exam in their mother tongue if they register in advance and are approved by the organizing committee. Each problem is graded on a 7-point scale, and the total score of the two days of the exam will determine the ranking and award of medals. According to the regulations, about 50% of the total number of candidates will receive gold, silver or bronze medals.

This year's Vietnamese team consists of 6 excellent students from specialized high schools across the country. They are Nguyen Dinh Tung (grade 11, High School for the Gifted in Natural Sciences , Hanoi National University), Tran Minh Hoang (grade 12, Ha Tinh High School for the Gifted), Vo Trong Khai (grade 12, Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted, Nghe An), Truong Thanh Xuan (grade 11, Bac Ninh High School for the Gifted), Nguyen Dang Dung (grade 12, High School for the Gifted in Natural Sciences, Hanoi National University), and Le Phan Duc Man (grade 12, Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted, Ho Chi Minh City).

Last year, out of 6 participating students, the Vietnamese team won two silver medals, three bronze medals and one certificate of merit, ranking 33rd out of 108 teams.

Tran Minh Hoang has achieved outstanding achievements such as:

- Gold medal in the 2019 English Math Olympiad (SEAMO)

- Silver medal in Singapore Math Olympiad (SMO) 2019

- Gold medal in Singapore and Asian Math Olympiad (SASMO) 2019

- Special prize in the 2019 Young Mathematics Talent Search (MYTS) competition

- Silver Medal International Mathematical Olympiad 2024

- Awarded the Third Class Labor Medal by the President in 2024, for outstanding achievements at the international Olympic competition.

Vo Trong Khai has achieved outstanding achievements such as:

- Gold Medal in the 2019 MYTS Young Math Talent Search Competition

- Gold Medal AMO Competition 2019 and 2021

- Gold medal of SEAMO Competition 2019,

- Silver Prize 7th Iran Geometry Olympiad 2020
