Hanoi is the locality with the largesteducational scale in the country with nearly 3,000 kindergartens, primary schools, middle schools, high schools and 29 continuing education centers.

The city currently has nearly 2.3 million students.

However, at the high school level, there are currently only 117 public schools, less than the number of schools at the middle school, primary school, and preschool levels.

This puts a lot of pressure on junior high school graduates taking the 10th grade entrance exam.

Each year, only 60 to 62 percent of junior high school graduates are admitted to public high school grade 10.

The remaining students have to choose to study at private high schools, vocational education-continuing education centers, vocational education facilities, colleges...

According to the leader of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, at the high school level, all types of schools in Hanoi ensure enough places for students.

However, in some densely populated inner-city districts, the number of students is increasing rapidly, due to the lack of public high schools, causing fierce competition in the entrance exam for grade 10. The industry has advised and proposed that the city allocate resources to build new public high schools for use.

Specifically, in the 2024-2025 school year, the city will have 2 public high schools in operation.

In the 2025-2030 period, the capital will have 30 to 35 new public schools to meet students' learning needs.

Districts have allocated land to build schools and are currently in the review phase.

Cau Giay District will build 3 new public high schools; Hoang Mai District, Dong Anh District… will also build more schools.

In particular, the medium-term public investment plan has allocated capital for the construction of 7 advanced and modern primary, middle and high schools.

4/7 units have had investment policies and the Hanoi People's Council will approve these policies to serve as a premise for the units to implement the project.

When the projects come into operation, they will help overcome the shortage of schools in some densely populated districts.

"With the determination to prioritize school construction, in some places where investors build urban areas with plans to build schools, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training has also strongly proposed to the city that during the project approval process, investors must build schools to ensure there are high-rise buildings and places for students to study," said the leader of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training.
