"After the incident where AISVN (American International School Vietnam) suddenly let students take a day off, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training invited Ms. Nguyen Thi Ut Em, Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of AISVN, to work. However, on the afternoon of March 19, Ms. Ut Em only sent a representative," said Mr. Ho Tan Minh, Chief of Office of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training.
"We have received many complaints from parents of AISVN School. However, some complaints are beyond the authority of the department, such as transactions, loan contracts, and investments between parents and the school...
Late in the afternoon of March 19, the department sent a delegation of officials directly to AISVN School to work. In the immediate future, the department will focus on solving the learning needs of AISVN students," said Mr. Minh.
AISVN School: Students return to school, but mainly to play
It is known that on March 18, all students of AISVN School had to temporarily stop going to school. According to the email that Ms. Ut Em sent to all parents of the school, the school temporarily stopped going to school on March 18 to focus on solving personnel and financial issues. This issue has made many parents upset and worried.
On March 19, despite the announcement to welcome students back, many teachers at AISVN School did not go to school. Some parents said they brought their children to school but had to sit in the cafeteria because there were no teachers.
Meanwhile, AISVN School said it is facing serious financial difficulties, owing salaries and insurance to teachers and staff.
Parents once came to AISVN School to "collect debts"
In September 2023, AISVN School was asked by many parents to pay the tuition debt, which is an "educational investment" that the school signed with parents, through an educational investment contract and will be refunded after 5 to 15 years of the student studying at the school.
In return, AISVN School will provide free formal training programs for students.
Immediately afterwards, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training held a meeting with the school board to assess the entire situation of the school.
It is known that AISVN School is a system of inter-level schools from kindergarten to grade 12 with more than 1,300 students studying. According to the announcement, the tuition fee for the 2023-2024 school year of this school ranges from 280 million VND to the highest level of 725 million VND/year, not including many other expenses.
