China to operate high-speed train reaching 450 km/h

Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên27/12/2024

Yesterday (December 27), the South China Morning Post reported that from next year, China will put into operation the new generation of high-speed trains CR450. Recently, images of the train were leaked from a clip recording the train running from Tianjin to Beijing to prepare for operation.

With a test speed of up to 450 km/h, the CR450 train can reach 400 km/h in actual operation, becoming the fastest passenger train in the world . Leaked images also show that the CR450 train has 8 cars, with a multi-angled arrow-shaped design.

According to official data, the CR450 hull weighs around 10 tonnes, 12% lighter than the current CR400 model. Energy consumption has been reduced by 20%, while braking performance has been similarly improved. These improvements increase commercial operating speeds by 50 km/h, without affecting the braking distance, noise level or energy efficiency of the train. The CR450 achieved a record speed of 453 km/h during a performance test conducted in June last year.

The CR450 project is part of China's 14th five-year plan, an initiative that also includes upgrading high-speed rail infrastructure such as tracks, bridges and tunnels. The Chengdu-Chongqing line, which is built to a higher standard, is considered a priority line for the CR450 to operate at its maximum designed speed. Meanwhile, the Beijing-Shanghai line is considered in need of upgrading to ensure the CR450 can safely operate at its highest speed.

Today, China's high-speed rail system is the world's largest network in operation, covering more than 45,000 km.
