Recently, AFC announced that referee Alireza Faghani will officiate the match between Vietnam and Indonesia in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers on March 26 at My Dinh Stadium.
Mr. Alireza Faghani was born in 1978 and was recognized as a FIFA-level referee in 2008. Since then, he has gradually become one of the most prestigious referees in Asia, having officiated at many major tournaments such as the World Cup (2018, 2022), the 2016 Olympics, the Asian Cup, the Confederations Cup, and the FIFA Club World Cup.
The Australian referee of Iranian origin is also no stranger to the Vietnam national team. He has even refereed many matches that the Vietnam national team won, the most memorable of which was the second leg of the 2018 AFF Cup final when the Vietnam national team defeated the Malaysian national team to become the champion. Meanwhile, Alireza Faghani has only refereed one match for the Indonesian national team, a 0-2 loss to the Malaysian national team in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers in Asia.
Assisting Mr. Alireza Faghani in the upcoming match are two assistant referees George Larkrindis and Ryan Gallagher. The fourth referee is Heidari Bijian.
The match between Vietnam and Indonesia will take place at 7pm on March 26. VOV.VN will broadcast the match live, and invite interested readers to follow.
