Apple's first foldable MacBook will be delayed until late 2027 or early 2028 due to technical challenges, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

Previous leaks have suggested that Apple is working on a 20.2-inch foldable MacBook, which was originally scheduled to launch in the first quarter of 2026.

However, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has just said that due to some technical issues, Apple has canceled the 20.2-inch version and replaced it with another version with a size of 18.8 inches. In addition, the launch time of the device is also extended to late 2027 or early 2028.

Apple is said to be working with Samsung Display and LG Display to develop its first line of foldable displays. Most likely, the company will continue to wait for the durability of this type of display to improve, before releasing an official product.

This foldable MacBook would create a whole new product category for Apple. When folded, the device would feature a full-screen virtual keyboard, allowing users to type directly on the screen. When fully unfolded, it would function as a standard display and could be combined with a separate keyboard to create a large-screen desktop setup.

The delay in the launch of the foldable MacBook could also affect the development of the foldable iPhone. According to The Information , Apple is developing two different foldable iPhone prototypes, both with a clamshell design.

Apple has also approached several component suppliers regarding the two foldable iPhone prototypes. However, the report also indicates that the company could still cancel the project if the product does not meet Apple's requirements.
