The Australian side is discussing Mr Albanese's visit to China , as the Labor-led government pushes to end unofficial bans and tariffs that China imposed on some Australian goods in 2020, as bilateral relations deteriorate. "We will finalise the date at the appropriate time," the Australian prime minister said, continuing to call on China to remove all trade barriers between the two countries.

Last month, China said it would resume imports of Australian timber, following a visit to Beijing by Australian Trade Minister Don Farrell. A visit to China by Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong in December 2022 also led to the resumption of Australian coal exports.
