Up to now, Quang Tri is the only province that combines entrance exams and admissions to grade 10 for the 2025-2026 school year for general students.

Accordingly, Quang Tri students will take the exam in three subjects: Math, Literature, and English in round 1. Literature will be in essay format. Math and English will be in essay format combined with multiple choice. All subjects will have a coefficient of 2.

After receiving the exam scores, candidates will enter round 2 - admission. In this round, candidates register for only 1 high school wish. The admission score is the total score of round 1 exam combined with the study and training results of 4 years of middle school, priority points, and encouragement points if any.

High schools that do not have enough enrollment quotas will be considered for additional enrollment.

To enter round 2, candidates must ensure that they do not violate exam regulations and have no exam score below 0.75 points.

On February 26, 27, and 28, Hanoi and the provinces of Vinh Phuc, Bac Giang, Quang Tri, Quang Ngai, Kon Tum, Ben Tre, and Dong Thap announced the third subject for the 10th grade entrance exam. These localities all chose English.

Notably, Vinh Phuc did not take the combined test as previously planned but also chose English. The Department of Education and Training of this province provided the knowledge scope and sample test for English subject with 40 questions, taking 60 minutes. For each correct answer, the candidate gets 0.25 points.

Thus, the vast majority of provinces and cities that have entrance exams for grade 10 choose English as the third subject for general students. Only Ha Giang chooses history and geography as the third subjects.

In addition, Binh Thuan also chose history and geography as the third subject for students at ethnic boarding schools.

There are 3 provinces and cities selected for admission: Vinh Long, Gia Lai and Ca Mau.

According to the Ministry of Education and Training's high school entrance exam regulations, localities are not allowed to take the same third exam subject for more than three consecutive years. Thus, by the 2028-2029 school year, provinces and cities that have chosen to take the English exam must change to another exam subject.
