Michelin Guides, a famous travel guidebook series published since 1900, recently gave some suggestions on places to visit and eat for tourists in 48 hours when coming to Hanoi.
According to the Michelin Guide, Hanoi, Vietnam’s vibrant capital, is a dynamic blend of history, culture and modern sophistication. Its bustling streets are filled with motorbikes and street vendors.
The French Quarter, with its tree-lined streets, ancient architecture and bustling cafe scene, is a must-see for any visitor.

Day 1: A Taste of Tradition and History
On the first day, visitors can start the day with a leisurely stroll through the French Quarter in Hanoi. Enjoy a cup of coffee on Trieu Viet Vuong Street, where there are many unique cafes, and watch the city gradually become bustling. If you're an early riser, stop by Au Trieu beef pho, a Bib Gourmand restaurant in the 2023 Michelin Guide, for a steaming bowl of pho. This unmarked shop is famous for its rich bone broth, simmered for 10 hours, and tender beef ribs and tendons. The restaurant's owner, Ngo Phuong Nga, 65, often welcomes foreign tourists to enjoy pho. "My family cooks a variety of meats for beef pho, but customers here usually like their pho well done or rare," Nga said.

Looking for a place to have lunch? It's not hard to find a bun cha restaurant in Hanoi's Old Quarter. Bun cha is a rich blend of fish sauce, grilled pork and raw vegetables. Diners can order fried spring rolls to go with it, combined with Hanoi beer. The Michelin guide suggests that visitors can go to Huong Lien bun cha restaurant (Le Van Huu Ward, Hai Ba Trung District), which once served former US President Obama. "In Taiwan, the fried food I usually eat is easy to get tired of. This bun cha dish doesn't make me feel that way. The combination of vegetables and dipping sauce makes this dish very special," said Mr. Vuong Hoang Van (a Taiwanese tourist).
